Shimano 2200 Crankset removal problem

Posted on
  • Hi everyone,

I got out a crank puller for a Shimano 2200 Crankset and assumed it would just be like any other.

Ended up pulling most of thread off of drive side crank.

Checked the Shimano instructions and they use a TL-FC10, the same thing I use to remove it.

    Where have I gone wrong?

  • was the puller threaded in all the way? i once screwed the puller in as far as it went, having left my brain somewhere in the flat, and didn't realise that the spindle part was still protruding a bit too much. turned the puller and voila: i was rewarded with several thread clippings.

  • Possibly not. Although I did tighten it quite well with a spanner. I'm going to have another look later today.

  • CRANKSET NOW OFF!

Crank nut had to be removed first with socket

  • I think you've learned a valuable lesson about bike maintenance today ;)

Wonder if thats why most modern stuff has allen head crank bolts that also serve as dust covers? Crazy you didn't think to take the bolt out first.

    Glad you sorted it though.
