For Sale: Ridley Oval Track Bike

  • It is with regret that I'm selling my track bike. Why with regret? Because I'm selling it having never actually had the chance to use it.

I bought it in ~Feb time this year from a lady who had used it twice before getting a back problem that put an end to her track cycling. She'd used it twice on the Manchester velodrome and in fairness it looks unused. It could be sold as new.

I promptly set about upgrading it with a Thomson post and stem and some really nice Bontrager Racelite VR bars and R1 saddle. I also upgraded the chainset to a Truvativ Omnium type with GXP external BB. The BB was a spare I had and is hardly used, but I bought the cranks second hand and they are showing some signs of scuffing on the crank arms. It's only light scuffing, but it's the only aspect of the bike that isn't as new (hence me mentioning it). It doesn't detract from the good looks of the bike. The chainring is the Miche Advanced 50T ring that came with the bike. The sprocket is a 16T one and the chain is 1/8".

The frame is hugely oversized aluminium and I suspect brutally stiff for track use. Not having ridden it, I can only imagine though. The frame has a rear brake drilling should you ever wish to fit one. The carbon fork does not have a hole drilling for a brake.

The wheels are Miche Pistard WR. The whole thing is stunning. I just wish I'd had the chance to give it a go but I've had a reality check and realised that I've not had the chance to use it this year and can't see that changing soon, so it's pointless me hanging on to it.

The bike new would have been £1200 and I've substantially upgraded it from the original spec. Geometry is as per the size "50" on the geometry chart on the link below:

Let me know if you have any questions or want more info. Looking for £750 for it. Sold without pedals. I'd ideally like to keep the bars so would be prepared to negotiate on those. I have some Oval ones I could offer instead (but with no tape on them). Thanks, Damian.

  • Would consider offers. Don't be shy 8-)

  • Mentioning frame size could help selling this.

  • Frame size is mentioned (although easily lost in all my other text) 8-)

It's a size "50", which has a 52cm effective horizontal top tube. Full geometry can be found here:

    Thanks for the interest.

  • just bought new one like that for £600 - doubt you sell for £750 regardless upgrades - nonetheless good luck with it.
I think that 'pure' track bikes are easy to buy and diffucult to sell.

  • Nice bike. Does this frame have an indentation on the seat tube a few inches above the bottom bracket on the drive side?

  • Yes it does. Never noticed that before. I guess it has a purpose?

Would accept £650 for it if any of you good folks fancy a bargain. Will definitely be keeping it otherwise 8-)

  • yetidamo - Thanks for your reply. My friend with this same frame has a dent there too and was wondering if they all did. I think Ridley used a road bike seat tube for some of the Ovals - the indentation is there for front derailleur clearance. I'd pick this up if I were not in the States.

  • Last reduction before eBay. £575 plus postage at cost. Alternatively I might be able to deliver by hand as my job takes me all over the country. PM me if you're interested in arranging something. The bike really is immaculate and would make a bargain for someone. I'm gutted to be selling it having never actually had the chance to ride it myself but I just can't see me getting the chance to use it.

The effective horizontal top tube length is 52cm and the head tube is 130mm. There is lots of steerer tube on the fork. I'm 5'9" and usually ride a 54cm top tube road bike, but was told to go for a slightly shorter top tube for a track bike. The stem is 110mm and from sitting on it, it fits me a treat. Just thought that the "50cm" framesize might be putting people off, but it comes up bigger than you might think.

    Thanks for looking.
