A quick bump.
I have some time, but I want to get this sorted out, it would be reassuring.

Another bump and a question.
How did you find the place you are living in now? Gumtree isn't the only option, is it?
-
• #4
I've found some good stuff on moveflat.co.uk in the past.
Good luck! -
• #5
Thanks guys, both sites are so much more helpful than gumtree.
I'm begining to have faith that I won't end up on the streets... -

Fenella's brother found a really nice place through Facebook classifieds
-
• #7
Hmmm, inneresting everything is expensive.

How far east are you prepared to go? I'd say you are priced out of Hackney, but try Tower Hamlets/Walthamstow/Leyton.
Gumtree is a nightmare. If you can get a week off work it would be good. I rung up any new ads first thing in the morning and tried to get the first viewings. I viewed around 40 places before i found one that i liked (wasn't a rat infested dump!)
Like someone mentioned before Facebook is a good tool, post messages to all your friends to see if they no of anything. Are you at Uni/college because they normally have people who can help you out?

This house hunting is killing me.
No one on here needs a nice lady with a nice cat? (I mean anyone who doesn't live in south london...) -

No one on here needs a nice lady with a nice cat?
false advertising? :)

Easy sir...
-
• #14
we've had problems on here before with people believing the hype.

I got lucky with Gumtree, but then again I was in a hurry when I found my current place.
I ended up in Stratford/West Ham area, which offered good value compared to a lot of other stuff I looked at. Not so keen on the area in general, but it's okay and there are some cheap houses to be had.+1 also for Moveflat; seems like a much better site. Good luck.

I just went and saw a great place, but they weren't sure about the cat, and loads of people wanted it.
-
• #17
I found that- for friends who;ve been looking- the university;'s often have 'flatmate wanted' posters up and these can bring some epic bargains.
but they do require sneaky university entrances sometimes and/ or a student friend. -
• #18
Well, I've been trying random notice boards recently as well, but hardly anyone is moving this time of year.
-
• #19
are you looking for a room just for the month of january, or for a permanent room as of january?

No one on here needs a witch and her moggy?

This is getting rather desperate.
I haven't found anywhere yet, and I'm considering moving to some very very far out places. Please keep me in mind if you hear of anything.

I haz a spare room. Iz in Brixton - ur old stompin ground!!!! Sorry I can't be more helpful, but jus so you know you won't end up on the street...
Plus I like cats and bikes :) -
• #23
I would consider a cat a plus. Preferably an aloof and moody one.
-
• #24
I think I've found a place, it's in Stratford, but...
well, it would be a home. -

moveflat>>gumtree
gumtree you can't even filter out adverts on criteria, say if you don't want to see ads for female only, or short lets. fucking pain. and moveflat has the map with the pins at eac advert with the rents. and it clearly says how many people live there like 1M1F or 2M. spareroom okay too.
I need to find a new place to live for January, possibly sooner.
I haven't got much stuff, but I do have a cat, and a few bikes.
I'd spend up to 300 a month for a room, but would be happy to live in an closet for less.
Please let me know if you know of anything.
