  • Yo. Its cold and icy today. I came off on some black ice at the top of mary street, if your coming to town from moseley watch out! Mary Street is never gritted, nor is the cycle path.

Two cars stopped and asked me if I was ok, one asked if I needed a lift anywhere. Faith in humanity restored!

  • Morning n3lson. Hope you're o.k.
I set off this morning, on what really was a beautiful ride into work.
Came off a roundabout at some pace earlier, and got a massive speed wobble which threw my back wheel out and put me into a barrier that separates a dual carriageway.
Looking back at it now, it would have looked like le tour riders that you see just heading toward the cliff edge because they know that any vicious turn of the bars are going to flip them. That was me.
    Good shout on the warning....
*I am in no way likening myself to a tour rider *

  • Sounds like someone has been watching a certain film.

  • Ha ha, nice one DFP.
Thats exactly what i was thinking of when i was typing....

  • Reminds me of the day after "white men cant jump" came on telly.

Every (normally empty) basketball court in the city was rammed full of teenagers spouting phrases like "motherfucking bitch ass chump"

  • I'm now officially a wuss. SERIOUSLY aching from the slip yesterday i practically walked down park road and mary street when i encountered the first bit of ice. Doubled the time of my commute....

  • sensible my friend. you must be getting old.

  • Rollers for me this morning.

  • I'm sure its just until my body forgets the pain...but getting older, the pain last longer...

  • too right :-(

  • My commute from harborne to the centre has been ok these last couple of days, not come across any so far. Thanks for the heads up though!

  • The back end stepped out on me yesterday going round a busy Redditch round-about. Thankfully just managed to hold it (cyclo-cross last year has been useful it seems). Saw some worried looks on drivers faces as they thought I was was going to stack it.

  • If your still at work or something, like to warn you that there is now a surprising amount of fog outside.

I was working outdoors, this clear sunny day. The fog appeared in a snap, very dramatic.

  • Indeed. i'm on the 4th floor at lancaster circus and all i can see is fog. the other side of the road isn't visible.

  • man up.

  • Made for an atmospheric ride home through Cannon Hill park....Almost couldn't see the path at times.

  • Oh my I couldn't ride through it almost got ran over 5 times

  • God, I love the fog me. "atmospheric" is exactly what I would have said too....

  • I left work at 7.15; thankfully it was pretty clear by then.

  • Riding home from work yesterday was shit. Could barely see my hand in front of my face at times.

  • Shit was like The Exorcist!

  • YouTube - Gregory Bauge makes an amazing recovery vs Kevin Sireau UCI WC 2009 sprint semifinal

The best bit in this clip is the guy in the backgrounds reaction at 1.30

  • went out last night in the fog with my housemates knog boomer light-really good! light was reflecting of street signs, cars, everything. felt invincible!

  • the feeling of invincibility often precludes the feeling of being knocked the fuck out...

which is why i don't wear a helmet. i feel too safe with one on. i rely on my sense of danger to avoid making bad decisions on road.

    still... feels good though, no?
