It's a customised version of vBulletin 3.7. There's about 20,000 lines of custom code on this site though, as well as a few major extensions from 3rd parties that I've either purchased or commissioned.

@velo libre: thanks. i thought that might be the case, but i couldn't find it for sure. and i also think i remember it using vanilla back in the day.
@ velocio: thanks too! i guess i'm looking for a much smaller thing, anyway, and it has to be free (software and price). i think you've done an awesome job, too :)

The old site was vanilla which is popular on lot of small sites.

Vanilla 2 is shite though. That's what we run at glasgowfgss.com and it's a bastard. Currently preparing to roll back to 1.

Also, Vanilla really suffers when it comes to administering the place. Fighting spammers and just managing stuff was really torturous with Vanilla.

what's wrong with it? i was just about to install it - seemed good because of the plugin/modularity nature of it all, but maybe that's not so good after all?
does anyone have any experience with fudforum? - http://cvs.prohost.org/index.php is the documentation site.
or, are there other recommendations? biggest requirement is that it is GPL, it would also be nice if it had good features (but i'm not sure exactly which are the best ones to have) and was easy to maintain (i.e. software updates, etc).
thanks!

[/QUOTE0]i just found this - http://glasgowfgss.com/discussion/1920/new-old-forum-software - so it seems that is the answer to this question. maybe there are other points you also want to add though?
