• Hi to you all,

I posted this on the mac thread but no responses.

Somewhere I have a 10.5 instal disk but I'm buggered if I can find it. I urgently need to do a clean install on my old G4 powerbook and the only other install disk I have is an intel specific one.

Does anyone have a general (i.e. not just intel) 10.5 or even 10.4 install disk I could use? Could even meet for coffee/beer and install there and then to save you having to hand over the disk.

Anyone able to help? I'm in Hackney if that makes any difference at all.

    Ben

  • We have an old g4 at work that should have install discs somewhere. It's a very long shot, but if no one else can help you quicker i can have a look on monday

  • Thanks, hopefully someone comes through before then. Its highly likely that the G4 disks are 10.3 which I have but it's so old its getting buggy with the software I need it to run.

I'll pm you if still stuck.

  • ah yeah true. we could have newer discs, but i think they'd be machine specific and wont work with other machines than the type they were shipped with

let me know if you want me to have a look though

  • funny I need 10.5 also - my girlfriend just got an Ipad and cant charge it from my comp because of me only have 10.4, but cant you get snow leopard for 20 quid or so from mac.com?

(Im super budget and cant be bothered to stump up)

  • I've tried to get a disc off her recetnly no luck,
I downloaded one off pirate bay that went superfast I lost the disc in my last move though
    but thats an option..

  • Snow leopard is intel specific and won't run on such comparative clunkers as my old G4 which is power pc.

  • Get your arse up to Muswell Hill for a pint and I can sort you out with a pub based install. I'll just prove that by digging out Tiger and Leopard - got them both somewhere...

  • I'm pretty sure that I've got a copy of 10.4 and 10.5 upgrade as a disk image on my external. In Brick Lane on Sunday and should be able to give you a copy of 10.4 but I don't have any dual layer discs for 10.5

  • Hi, might be able to help: I have just been through this as am selling my old Macbook. I went through a bit of a nightmare - ended up downloading a cracked copy of the 10.5 install and buying a specially sized (and bloody expensive) DVD to burn it on. But it all worked, so yes, now I have one. Do you still need it? I'm in N1 just near Old STreet/City Road.

  • PMd plurabelle, thanks to you all, I'll keep you posted on my progress.

  • Sorted, big thanks to you all.

    Forum group hug.
