I simply cut the old tub and the pull it off.
I've never bothered to clean the rim properly. I know it's vital for the cyclocross (low pressure), track (safety), and some carbon (common sense), but as long as everything is still tacky and the tape sticks well, the high pressure will push the tub against the rim and seal it well.
Just use Tuffo tape, as the other brand don't have the rapid grip factor (Velox takes ages to stick properly and you will still have gaps left). -

Thanks for the help- in the end I peeled an edge away and used a guitar plectrum (Jim Dunlop 0.6mm) to saw through the tape until enough was free to pull the tyre off.
Next time, I'll probably just cut it though!
I'm using Tufo Extreme again so I've taken the old tape off and cleaned the rim up a bit. That should do it. I've got to say, I'm impressed with the tape!

It's brilliant, isn't it?
The best thing to have on you (plus a spare cheap tub of course, like a Conti Giro or Vittoria Rally) when you go for a long ride, as it's road ready within minutes. -

It really is great stuff- as much as I enjoy the ritual of gluing tubs, the tape is so clean and easy to use. Also, it's so strong that I'm sure it'd take a lot to roll and underinflated/punctured tub off the rim.

I've always thought that tape is crap, mostly because I've seen a few rolled tyres with tape but I have also heard that the tufo is good nowadays. One thing that does worry me- how do you get the tyre perfectly straight with tape, can you move it about a bit after it's touched the tape?

Err. Clincher?

I align the tub before I pull of the protective plastic strip.
With the Velox tape the protective strips would rip, so you have to remove it first and the align the tub.
With Tufo, you first stick the tape with the protective film left on, mount and align the tub, pump it up a bit to make sure it seats well and then pull the film off the whole length of the rim. It's quite simple really. -

yeah like pulling a rip cord. everything stays nice and centered. really easy and fast to do. and no sticky glue. but not as romantic.

Err. Clincher?
Some bikes deserve tubs.
My daily use and abuse bike has clinchers although with the improvement in tape it's almost as fast (as I've now discovered) to change a tub as it is to change an inner tube or fix a puncture in a clincher.
As above, I'd give the Veloflex tape a miss and go straight for the Tufo Extreme.

Tufo recommend that their tape [both regular and extreme] should not be used with non-Tufo tubs......What is the thoughts of users of Tufo tape? Does anyone agree or disagree with Tufo regarding use their tape on non-Tufo tubs?

Epson wants you to use Epson inks only.
Will the world end tomorrow if I don't use a Tufo made tub? No. -

Sure about that? I wouldn't want that responsibility on my shoulders

Track tubs and racing wheels should be glued.
Tape FTW on everything 'training' or 'sportive'

Cyclocross tubs should be glued and taped.
I'd use glue on any sportive wheels for events that involved long mountain descents too.

I use tape for the descent to the pub.

You should be good with the tape only.

Which is better for metal rims such as Mavic GP4..Regular or Extreme
BTW: i love your avatar!
After enjoying a puncture then walking home in the rain, I now have the problem of removing the tub.
With glue, they seem to come off relatively easily but this us my first foray into tub tape (Tufo Extreme) and, after half an hour of pulling, it's still stuck tight.
Does anyone have any hints or tips please? Also, when putting the mew tyre on, is it best to remove the old tape residue completely and start with a clean (steel) rim?
Cheers,
Johnny
