also the last 2 times I visited london they decided to strike and I had to walk about 7miles across london :/ hopefully not this time, but then it is TFL... -

I feel a catastrophe coming on

If you just get buses doesn't Oyster have a cap of about £4 a day? I doubt anyone would do this favour for less than £10 worth of beer.
-
• #10
Yeah, I thought with pay as you go, you never pay more than a daily, which is about £5, no?
-
• #11
Holy shit.. it is fucking >£8

When i was first in London (as a student) I had very little money- and what little I did have I had to spend on my alcohol problem (and tracing paper).
So I walked everywhere. The distances you mention are all easily walkable- slow, but walkable.

If he has to go to Ally Pally/Highgate that's zone 3 so £8.60, or £17.20.
That is pricey, my beater would pay for itself in less than six days!
I'd offer it but it has 48/15 gearing and brakes that barely work, I wouldn't want to be responsible...

Walking at 6kph, plug that into google maps and work out what time you need to leave to arrive on time. Easy

Or, as you are in England, 4mph.

I have a proper beater available. It was freecycled to me, so no loss if it dies. It's in Hackney, you'd have to get here to pick it up... I accept NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR MECHANICAL SOUNDNESS OF THE BIKE... but my friend used it with no incident for a couple of months

I am deeply sorry if my pun-based humour caused you any distress. I can be insensitive at times.

Cheers all for the,, erm, helpful input.
To those of you with an income 8 quid doesn.t sound a lot. Its also because I'm trying to learn my way around london and I have a keen hatrer of buses in general (ive been on this one for 7 hours already, its nearly 30 degrees and smells like toilet, the radiator is bust so instead they are melting us with its blower, its running over 2 hours late and I'm still not even at birmingham yet. Buses are not my friends)But london buses have a cap of what? Zone 2&3 I guess. if its 3.90 that's fine, but sounds suspiciously cheap to me :/
Odd request and this is probably teh wrong place for this post (maybe classified/wtd?).
I'm coming down early tommorrow (thurs) on a bus from the lake district, managed to talk to someone at the bus company who reassured me the bus was fully booked and there was no chance I'd get my bike on, even dissembled (70cmx30cmx50cm rule).
In need of something that gets me from victoria bus station area (or any central really) to highgate for thurs, then something to get around east london on friday, can return friday afternoon?
Or alternatively could pick up thurs evening/ friday morning from highgate/hampstead/alexandra palace area? then drop off the same friday evening?
Also I know I'm new here, but I know Mc_nebula and Silentmotion (might be under a different username here) if that helps anyones confidence?
Cheers all!
