That airbag looks great if you get rear ended by a car travelling at 12 mph while trackstanding.
I've never been rear ended by a car travelling at 12 mph while I've been trackstanding but if I were to I would feel happier with a cushion.

I don't think that he could really use an airbag nor perform a trackstand. Trackstands take a lot of practice.

I wouldn't like to be rear ended by a pigeon though. Not one travelling at 12 mph.
