Wanted: Medium format camera (6x6)

Posted on
  • Looking to buy a medium format camera (6x6) and a lens(70/80/90mm) with an aperture of f2.8 asap to use for a project at uni.

    Thanks.

  • Have a look on ebay for a Mamiya C3 you can sometimes get them cheap and the quality is quite good.

  • Got a Rollei 6006, 80mm. couple of backs (including polaroid), 2 batteries ( worth £100 each these days)

    £800

  • thanks but a bit over a students budget.

my budget is around around £100-£250

  • whats the difference with the SQA and SQB?

  • You're posting in the wrong thread. That question should be asked in the Non-Digital Film Photography thread.

But here's your answer anyway. It was easier to just quote the link than to write a full explanation.

I realise its your thread, but it would be answered better and quicker in the Non-Film thread, as opposed to in the Classifieds.

does your college not have cameras to lend to students?

    +1

I've used the C3, C33 and C330 with excellent results. Lovely things.

  • Also I saw Mamiya RB67 on here not long ago for an alright price. http://www.lfgss.com/thread51273.html

  • 6x7, not 6x6....as was asked for.

    I used to own 3 C-series cameras, now own 2 RB67 cameras.

Lovely, but I miss, and prefer 6x6.

  • I know it's 6x7 I just suggested it to him since he needs a medium format and can always crop it down to 6x6 if he wants. Although I too prefer working with 6x6.

    Thanks.

Will any of the camers by lomotography do the job?

  • Is there a company called lomotography? I hadn't heard of it till now.

This one might be pushing the price range a little.

  • look into yashicamat 124G...they have been built until 1983, they have a metering system built in (useful!! believe me) and most important you can find them for 100£ on ebay. I am currently shooting whith one of this and I am super satisfied. good luck!!!

I'd consider an offer on this seeing as I've had no interest, 6X7 is better anyway.

it also has a reseau plate fitted so not much good for non scientific/industrial work.

I'm sure he can incorporate it into his work somehow.

I would have went for it if I wasn't in my final year of uni and all my money didn't have to go on buying film and making prints :(

  • ...6X7 is better anyway.

    Why?

Were Hasselblads and Rolleis so hamstrung by their preferred orientation, that Mamiyas and Pentaxs were immediately superior? I own 2 RB67 cameras, and badly miss my previous 6x6 cameras.

I think the only couple of advantages that 6x7 had were:

    Easier cropping (ie. less of it) for a magazine cover;
Larger image (if that was important)

Its not so readily known, but the 6x6 format lead the way, and was always the more technologically advanced in every respect (if that meant something also).

6x6 cameras had the best metering Rollei 6008 Integrale (spot, multispot)
6x6 cameras had the fastest flash sync Rollei 6008 Integrale (1/1000sec)
6x6 cameras have the best reliability record Mamiya C330
6x6 cameras had the widest range of lenses Hasselblad 500 series
6x6 cameras had the most high quality lenses Hasselblad [anecdotal]
6x6 cameras were designed with unique functions - Hasselblad 500 / Rollei SL66

I'm clearly very biased towards 6x6 cameras, even though I own 6x7.

  • I don't think 6x7 is bad but at uni when I have the choice between a Mamiya RB67 for a project or the Hasselblad 500cm I go for the Hasselblad (and I own a Mamiya C3 which is a truly brilliant camera). I like composing better with the 6x6, however i'd still love the RB67 if I had the money to get one. Also the fight between 6x7 or 6x6 is a debate that constantly breaks out at uni.

  • if you find you have the money. I dont want to sell but need the rent more than the camera!
