  • Just watched and applied for tickets again, the mrs is desperate to go but applied many times with no luck, anyone managed to get a ticket and who did you see? Any good?

  • Hootenanny!

Would love to go at some point.

  • was great.

Radiohead (first airing of OK computer - amazing).
Portishead (one of my favourite bands of the nineties).

I forget who else we saw....

    Great vibe.

  • One of the SE beers crew was on it not so long ago, playing french horn.

  • if only someone would handcuff him to an aircraft carrier to stop him from playing god awful honkytonk piano over everything

My good God... That Radiohead show absolutely blew my 13 yr old head off.

Yes. He really is the most awful bore with all that rubbish plinky-plonk tossery all the time.

  • if only someone would handcuff him to an aircraft carrier to stop him from playing god awful honkytonk piano over everything

Mark E Smith made him sign a contract that he wouldn't go near a piano whilst he was playing, classic.

  • If you do get tickets still go early. They oversubscribe and then turn away people so the studio doesn't look empty.

    Saw Dizzee, The Editors

  • I've applied about 5 times and no luck, good luck with it all.
(jools holland always makes me think of a penguin cross with a circus conductor)

  • I saw Jools Holland at the Nashville (now the Famous Three Kings) when he was with Squeeze. Not very good. Never bother with him since.

  • Apparently he displays a "short man's attitude" of Napoleonic proportions in the real world, treats people with disdain and indifference if they are taller than him (most people).
Once flew into a rage and upended a full dinner table in Claridges when he over heard someone refer to him as "one of the shit ones out of Squeeze".

  • Went to the unveiling of Oasis' "Heathen Chemistry" years ago. Superb show, even if Jools was a bit of a tit.

Also went to the Hootenany when Jay from Jamiroquai sung "Miss You" with Chrissie Hynde. Yet another great show ruined only by Mick Hucknall giving it Mr Tickle arms and letching over the girls we were with. He didn't even seem remotely put of when one of them said "piss off you ginger tosser!"

  • I went a few times, once through the ticket lottery (saw Elvis Costello), and the other times through knowing the bands (saw Elastica, Pulp and Blur on different occasions and multiple times).

Clearly these were all back in the day, as I'm old, and few of those artists have performed recently.

It's not a bad experience, a good show but you can't always hear everything as the nature of microphones is that they can't playback things at high volume because it would create feedback. It's worth seeing how a programme is recorded, and watching the acts, but you will be lucky to hear the interviews and perhaps even all of the acts clearly. Go for the experience and just enjoy it, but it's not a gig.

I got annoyed with his need to include plinky plonk piano on things that didn't need it, but I've watched it a couple of timesrecently and he seems to be doing that less nowadays.

  • whos' "Saw" ?
looks like you've seen them a few times. any good?

  • Corrected ;)

  • if only someone would handcuff him to an aircraft carrier to stop him from playing god awful honkytonk piano over everything

As if that would stop him.

  • Always found him a strange little man.Although the show sometimes has some decent variety on it. About 3 years ago the fee to the record label for their artists to appear on the show was 20 grand.

  • would love to have been at jools for bjork, libertines or radiohead

surely this cant be the case now? i mean, how could anyone pay £20K for some of the dogshit that ends up on that show.

By the way where on earth has jools neck gone
have a look he doesn't have one

  • I like to imagine a parallel universe in which it's hosted by his 'brother', in Raw Sex mode.

  • Yeah I reckon half the audience is on some media love in and probably about 20 'real' ticket apliers get in. Having just received my new tv licence for the next year at a cost of £145 I fucking deserve one considering all I really watch in the news and MOTD, and even with that have a problem with most of the shit my money pays lineker and lawro etc to spew.. Is there a more self satisfied team of presenters on tv?

  • Give it up.
Everything worth watching is on bbc iplayer, C4 on demand or TV Duck anyway, so you can get it all for free.
