Bourne End to Bournemouth

Posted on
  • Some friends and I are riding through the night on the 15th from bourne end in berkshire to ashley cross in poole.

Picking up the bournemouth route(100 club route) as soon as we can and stopping in the new forest for a picnic at dawn before finishing the ride in le bataeu in ashley cross for a slap up breakfast

We will be leaving bourne end around ten pm from outside on2wheels bike shop on the high street and gently cruising along.

Anyone done this route before got any tips of where to stop along the way or likely places to get lost. Or if you wanna tag along

  • Sounds like a good ride. Can't make it unfortunately, but enjoy!

I suppose it goes without saying, but finding stops for food and water will be tricky during the night, so best make sure you have enough when you set off. If you're passing through Alton, that would be the most likely place to find a late-night garage. Perhaps research the service stations close to the route, in case you need to make a detour to one of them.

Can't remember any particually tricky navigation, but things can catch you out at night - I usually use streetview for the junctions and make notes of things to look out for.

  • cheating and using various garmins so hopefully wont get lost but you never know...

    Looking for 24hr garages now

  • if you do this go to Little red Roaster over the green from le bateaux,
its new, run by a guy called andrew, open at 7 a,m does lush food and drink,
and he moved down from London and knows Hillbilly and people off here,
    le Bateaux is passe dude

  • le Bateaux is passe dude

Agree with that 100%. If you're riding all the way down here I'd def check out mf's suggestion. Haven't tried it myself (yet) but le Bateux would not be my first choice.

Who needs a bike when you can transcend entire universes with the power of your mind alone?

I'm fixedless at the mo :( My tatty old Roberts has been stripped ready for a complete overhaul so riding a late 80s TVT road bike. I'm gonna keep an eye out on progress at Slades Farm so maybe bump into ya there one day. Peace.

  • Thanks for the tip m.F. Haven't been down for breakfast in a while, not sure I know the new place but sounds like they will have a few tired guys in for a feed.
Is it on the same bit as the grove?

Have sorted the half way stop, take the service road to winchester service for a hot cuppa

  • Well we made it, was harder than i expected but definately going to repeat next year.

Having to review the half way stop though as climbing the fence into winchester services it not the best at 4am

Some great roads through tthe new forest at sun up and even getting lost we carried on because the road was great fun to ride.

few lite off road sections were a surprise but welcome addition and a lot of fun
