Wheelset advice needed

Posted on
  • Evening All,

So - I am looking at putting a new wheel-set together:

    Ideal Wheel-set

    Rims : Campagnolo Omega V 36H ( black )
    Hubs: Phil Wood LF 36H
    Spokes : Undecided

Now I know Campagnolo Omega V(s) are hard to come by but campy old do have
a set of black 32H - I am very tempted to take the 32H & as I have not purchased the
    hubs yet, & go for Phil's LF in a 32H -

My only worry is wheel strength, Any one running LF Phil's 32H on a smilier profile wheel or better yet Campy Omega V ... ?

    I'm only little ... 9 stone.

Any help / advice would be very much appreciated

    Many Thanks - D -

  • take the 32h's and build them 3x, and they'll be plenty strong enough.

  • That what I wanted to hear .. : ) ... Just have to wait till the 12th

    Almost forgot Thanks "cornelius blackfoot"

  • 9 stones? I'd leave every other spoke out and lace them 1/2 cross.

  • : ) hahahaha & just under 6" - Stringy bastard

  • At 9 stone you could use as low as 28h if you wanted. 32h for that no worries definitely will be strong enough assurance.

  • Thank for the advise guys -

Hubjub you have mail : )

  • Another quick question :

Campagnolo Record Pista Track Low Vs. Phil Wood track Low ?

It is simply just a choice between loose ball & cartridge ?

  • I'd rather go for the Planet-X own-brand 50mm carbon wheels than those to be honest.

  • Thanks Dammit. Is this based on value or overall performance?

if you are using these in the real world where waterproofing is an issue- go for the Phils.

  • What do people think of these?

You entering a race? I wouldn't train on carbon tubular wheels with low spoke count as I don't want to be that scared of punctures and my fat ass might well break them on the roads surrounding London.

  • Doing 2 triathlons and 4 stages on The Tour next year (with support car). These would only be used for those.
