  • Jesus and Mary Chain ?
    Sonic Youth ?

  • You've not mentioned Lush! The way I heard it, the term shoegazing was first used to describe them. Ciao... ;-)

  • I've never really been able to identify shoegazing. I guess because I don't really know what it is (and it seems to be a mostly British genre). I mean, I don't know if I'd have ever thought of Galaxy 500 as shoegazing. More indie pop with a slacker edge? Do Dinosaur Jr count?

  • Ahhh :) Happy memories! (except I feel old now)

  • I always classed Smiths fans as shoe gazers.

    No?

  • no!

  • Easy on the 'very's' when talking about the 'average bands' ..Jeez
    ;-)

  • Ok! Don't shout!

Go back to weeping over your Doc's, you fringy miseries...

  • I always classed Smiths fans as shoe gazers.

    No?

that's interesting how you think the fans are shoe gazers, not the band.

  • I was quite friendly with a lot of these bands BITD and used to get chucked onto the same bills... All of them (including your holy trinity) were shite... Sorry... Fact... ;]

Galaxy 500 were not shite. I will fight you.

  • i'm with queenslain on this matter.

  • Lush I'd stick in category (2)!

Galaxy 500 are not a band I know particularly well.

Dinosaur Jr - I tend to think of them as a grunge band if anything. Truth be told they're probabl best described as a rock band, though one who were influenced by shoegaze (or at least the same things that true shoegazers were) and metal.

To me shoegaze is really category (2). Category (1) should not be called shoegaze cos it limits them unfairly, and category (3) is full of the numerous bands who shared elements of the sound, were not as good as the Holy Trinity but again it is unfair to call them and limit them as shoegaze.

    Sure.

Except your time-lines are clashing with Dinosaur Jr. As far as I can tell they pre-date the rise of shoegazing. And, although there is a grunge element to them, Lou Barlow kept them from drifting too far into that genre. Lo-fi indie slacker rock pop ftw! Or something.

  • i'm with queenslain on this matter.

Then I will fight you as well.

    Fuck.

  • Who did you play with?

Not fact by the way. The Telescopes and Spacemen 3 are the two greatest bands of all time. FACT.

MBV, Spacemen 3 and most of the other swill you mention... The Spacemen were hilarious live, MBV were painful... Funny times...

Shit! Forgot about that. Skully's wise. His reluctance to settle their old beef shouldn't be ignored.

  • your reluctance to take skully's side is also telling.

  • I've taken no sides.

I'll wait until one stands victorious.

  • I bloody loved Ride! the cover to their album that was the sea with RIDE embossed on it was so good I almost had it framed....... damn my receeding hairline I miss my fringe and being miserable :(
