  • Hey been scouring the web to no avail, can anyone point me towards a nice looking gold a head stem. Want something quite classic looking like:
    http://www.tokyofixedgear.com/shopexd.asp?id=1570
    Or
    http://www.tokyofixedgear.com/shopexd.asp?id=2722

Needs to be 1 1/8 size and preferably with a 25.4mm clamp size.

Or alternatively has anyone got experience with getting ones like the links plated?

    Cheers

  • nice looking? in gold? there isnt any sorry

Then I guess the question becomes getting them plated? Is it possible? Anyone got any experience?

I work right in the silver district I should probably just pop in some of the shops and ask.

I think what he means is gold and nice looking are mutually exclusive.

I used to work opposite LSV. Didn't see a lot of gold to be fair. Other than gold Volvos from Golder's Green.

  • but really had you go to google and type "bike stem gold" and check the images

    FOR FUCK SAKE!!!!

Yeah and its all pretty much chunky BMX style stems and a couple of quills. FOR FUCKS SAKE!!! :-P

  • oh boy....

  • andy, please, tell him where and how much

No. Stop. That's not gold, it's metallic mustard.

  • Could be worse. The Dirty Harry brake levers claim to be gold and are actually orange.

  • Lol

  • ok, tell us for what bike it is and maybe we can help you better

  • Shamefully it started life as a Charge Plug Racer. I started to play about swapping bits out and have quickly become addicted. I switched to an azonic stem a while ago with some risers but have realised I hate the ride position as it put the bars too close to me. Needs some more extension. Currently at 50mm so thinking of going 110mm, Keeping the risers to see what it feels like if I still don't like it I'll go straight bar. I just think the frame is too chunky to look good with drops.

  • So, explain the goldness lust.....

  • and where the "gold" fit in the whole picture. do you have more gold bits?

  • That all stems back to nostalgia, had a bmx with gold bling as a kid. Have some gold rim deep v's on it now. In hind site the whole gold thing has proved a bit of a headache but I'm one of those people that buys things impulsively, much to my detriment. Also finding the best thing to do is experiment and maybe take a bit of a hit returning things or reselling on ebay.
(sorry ninja edit due to gf bugging me)

  • I see...

  • What about one of those see-through stems?

Heh actually ordered those as a last resort. They probably are a good fit style wise for the frame. Just not in love with them. Maybe its the personality that counts not the looks.

Does anyone know any shops selling em. No luck on Google. And none of the normal Nitto stores like Hub Jub do em.

  • Get it from the states.

  • They want $85 for stem and $78 for shipping. That comes to £100+ for a stem. Ouch.
