Nice to hear that there is somebody helping a 1200Km ride happen :)
Would be nice to get a few people to do the qualifying rides together ;) I have already sent off my entry for The Willy Warmer 207.
Anybody planning to do this ? We could organise a group to ride to the start as a warm-up

An SR series in 2011. That is a 200, 300, 400 and 600 BRM.
More details on the yacf thread (thanks to Greenbank)

They're all mad, I tell you, MAD!!!! Over-caffeinated nutters the lot of them. I did hear about one PBP rider going properly psychotic on his pro plus tabs.......

More real concerns come in the form of Shermer's Neck. A medical condition named after Mike Shermer who suffered heavily from this in the Race Across America. The condition basically consists of all of the muscles in your neck giving up simulteously.
Still, it's a risk I'm prepared to take.

My initial training for this will be to keep up the 12 miles each way commuting on a daily basis. Not much but very valuable.
On top of that I'm going to keep doing at least one 200k audax every month. Probably try to work in some mid week training as well (I'm thinking of taking up some spinning classes) and making sure I do at least half a day's riding on every weekend, whatever the weather. I might do cyclocross races as well. All of that is to try and keep my fitness topped up, my speed reasonable and my weight down.
As soon as the weather breaks then it's proper long rides three weekends in four and as soon as it starts I'll pick up the local 10 mile TT league.
Not sure which qualification rides I'll be doing yet. Waiting for the calendar to be published later on.

+1 for a base camp in Paris (i live here)
Really really want to do this, but I just don't think it's realistic, work is taking off, and I can't justify doing day rides every weekend until June 2011.
I'm a member of ACP, the club that organises, and I'm supposed to be translating the flyers, but they haven't sent anything round yet.

I love their translations; they have a unique elaborate and heroic style .

That looks tempting but I do still have some unfinished business with the BCM that I would like to attend to this year.
Actually there's a string of rides that I have unfinished business with, all of which I could qualify with. Bravery, stupidity or utter madness?

The bulk of my 'training' will be my 8 miles each way pan-flat commute.
Not much time for anything more than a minimal SR.
Will be doing all (including PBP) but the 600 (Kernow & South West, bloody hilly down there in Devon/Cornwall) on fixed.
Have to ditch the tri-bars though, which is a bit of an arse, I've grown to love them for long distance riding. Will shave off 500g though.

Are you allowed to tape the tri bars to your arms and then just hook them over your bars when appropriate?

Only when hidden inside a baguette or two.
I've seen photos of some handlebar bags on PBP with some very stiff supports built in.

Matt_ha, the seldom killer, teddy and I are planning on doing paris brest paris.
We are hoping to meet up on 16/10/10 in Kew for a ride out to Henley, and a pub lunch to discuss training etc.
Is there anyone else with a keen interest in the event who would like to come along?
Given the time of year would suggest mudguards etc to help make it a little more social.

I've been thinking about it. I haven't done any audax events before, but have plenty of longer rides under the belt, the longest being London - Paris earlier in the summer.
Part of my thinks it would be better to aim for 2012 and get plenty of audax experience next season, the other part thinks if I can keep a decent base mileage this winter and get in on some early audaxes, I'll be good to go.
Henley is a nice ride from Oxford, but I'm off on holiday on that day :( -

Arducius, PBP is only run every four years. After next year the next one will be 2015.
-

Bugger. Better get my self sorted then!
That explains why their website has lots of references to 2007! -

This is what the PBP looks like when the magic potion begins to wear off.
I might be interested though. I have doubts about my capabilities, but I have no plan for next year's riding. I might like to come on the Kew-Henley ride on the 16th.

^ The 1951 PBP was a race though (the last one I think) and not an audax. Is that year still the course record time?

are any of you long distance guys runners as well?
what kind of distance compares to a marathon?
-
• #25
Depends. I've seen fatties, OAPs and people in suits of armour run marathons. You don't tend to get them doing PBP.
This is more like it..
Let's get this started; a thread for those who intend to do it , for those who want to help others do it and for those who want to stand and watch others do it: PBP doggers if you like .
I will identify myself as a volunteer for the LFGSS base camp in Paris ..
And now over to you
