They should get some local graffato artists down there! ;-)

He was a boy, she was a girl, can I make it any more obvious?

Skaters and Graffiti don't necessarily go together. A good example of that is how the South Bank management, when they removed the majority of space that was used by skaters and put hoardings up in the undercroft area, encouraged graffiti on the hoardings. The skaters themsleves weren't asked about this, there was just a lazy presumption that 'street' things like skateboarding are somehow necessarily associated with graffiti ... sort of stereotyping, if you will. I've heard it said the skaters at south bank weren''t particularly happy about a lot of spray paint fumes and people getting in the way of skaters, and not happy about being associated with vandalism in a kind of knee-jerk 'ooh you're skaters so you must want the place to look like shit'.

He was a punk, she did ballet, what more can I say?

Crispin do you want rep for that? I'm splitting my sides here.
-
• #7
Skully - you been to MK bus station recently? Think they did end up putting some street furniture in for them?
-
• #8
Yep, Wig was involved in the plans for that. He's also invloved in this, he lives in Telegraph Hill now.
That's a really good example of how good planning decisions can work for everyone.

He wanted her, she'd never tell, secretly she wanted him as well.

Neg repped you prick.

That's what I was thinking of - they kinda said 'let us project manage it for you' - which took the headache away for the council. Good work
-
• #12
Yeah. And what's great about it was that they were mature enough to realise that the skaters weren't going to be told, 'if you go away, we'll build you a park here instead' and put it somewhere really out of the way and sketchy.

Ah lighten up you twat.

Skully - Out of interest, do you remember a guy in MK (think he was from Stantonbury) called Ollie? Skater - used to wear top hat and tails?!
-

Haberdashers Aske's is a state school, the other schools run by the Haberdashers aren't.

I'm going to be selling my flat on Pepy's Road soon, so I'd quite like to keep the house prices inflated for the time being.
"Not on my doorstep" etc etc.

Ah lighten up you twat.
OK well maybe I'm being a touch too serious.
But still, do one.
-
• #18
Really Timmy? Are you being serious? You don't think we could do with it round there?
-
• #19
What a load of bollocks. They would not complain about a football pitch with a load of mini pistinators mincing around.
You get more polite young people at skate parks than a lot of other facilities. Typical bull shit pigeonholing.
Can't be there be there as I'm away that day.

I'll come down, skully.

Just saw that^
Haha yeah Ollie the hippy.
Funny dude. Used to live in this manky flat in Netherfield later on with a punk casualty called Wally. Olly and Wally. Oh what fun we had.

Tiswas
I am aware that the residents have certain other objections and what they are, what I'm not really into doing is giving their views too much of an airing. If you're interested, come to the meeting and find out. -

he he! Funny what you remember! He tried to teach me to Ollie one day....I was hopeless!
There's a planning application to build a skatepark in a corner of the lower part of Telegraph Hill Park, just south of New Cross Gate.
Unfortunately there's been quite a vocal opposition from certain locals who seem to think that young people don't have a right to be provided for in this way, presumably they think it might affect the rather inflated house prices thereabouts. One of the reasons prices are so high there is because they're around what I'm told is Biritain's most oversubscribed secondary school, Haberdashers Aske's. Which seems somewhat ironic.
Tomorrow there is a meeting to take a vote from local people about the proposal. The funds for the park are in place but the plans must be acted on in time for the funds to be available, that deadline is fast approaching. The meeting is at 7.pm tomorrow, Tuesday 21st September, at Haberdashers Aske's school, at the north end of Jerningham Road opposite New Cross Gate station.
We need your support. Are you a parent or young person who would like a skatepark in the New Cross area? Would you be willing to help us get this park built? Please come along if you can offer your vote and get involved.
Thanks.
