  • Now then folks,

I'm moving up to Gateshead next weekend and am bringing my fixed gear up. I've been riding it in London in the flatter areas with a 48/18 48/17 ratio, i forget, will check tonight.
I know its a lot hillier up there so was after a recommendations for a new ratio. I'll mostly be travelling between Gateshead Stadium area to Newcastle Uni to start with. I've got vertical dropouts so would like to avoid faffing about with changing setup much.
do you guys have a regular social? would like to meet up with some peops and maybe give polo a go some time

    later,

  • its really not that hilly here. i run 48x17 and have no problems with any hills, used to run 48x16 too, also no problem.

the only regular meet up at the min is polo on a wednesday and sunday and sometimes people go to the quayside on a sunday morning. a lot less will be happening now its winter though.

  • Alreet Oldbean,
I'd echo Phil's sentiments on the ratio front. I run 48:18 and often ride from home into town (about 10 miles) without issues and I'm an old git and a smoker. There's not many hills in Newcastle, so don't worry. Oh, and as they say in that London, HTFU!
See you soon around Toon or on the polo court ;)
