  • These are great, but I've just got too many wheels and now I'm commuting on a S3X these just aren't going to get used. I used these on my daily commuting bike for about a year, but wasn't doing a lot of miles at the time, so they're used, but not abused.

32 hole Goldtec track hubs in pewter front and rear, front is laced radially, rear is 3X. Front rim is a black Mavic Open Pro with ceramic braking surface, rim looks pretty much like it did when new, no signs of wear. Rear rim is a black Mavic Open Pro with normal braking surface, rear rim has never seen a brake, though it has picked up a couple of cosmetic scratches, though nothing problematic or of any significance.

Looking at Goldtec's website they'd charge you £260ish for a similar set of wheels, minus the ceramic braking surface on the front rim. Looking at Chain Reaction Cycles website the ceramic rim costs another £40 over the standard rim, so I'm asking for £160 for the wheels along with a brand new (still in the packaging) set of Shimano ceramic compatible brake pads.

I'll post some pics tomorrow, dibs followed by PM please.

  • If any one wants the rear I'll split with them.

  • I have the same wheelset and they are London proof. The ceramic open pro on the front gives much better braking in the wet.

  • If any one wants the rear I'll split with them.

Could be interested in the rear if postage is on the cards...

  • 2nd dibs rear if split, knowthejo

  • dibs the pair pending photos. Unless you want to take the splitting dibs.

  • great wheelset, i had the same thing until last week when a fucking minicab turned left into me on a straight bit of road and fucked my front wheel completely.
very tough set of wheels and fairly lightweight too. someone give the man some money for these, quick.

  • second dibs pending photos

  • Sorry, the pics aren't great, the proper camera needs charging, but happy to meet up for people to take a proper look at them before finally committing to buying them. I want to keep this as simple as possible, so am going to give preference to people who want both wheels, sorry knowthejo et al.

So that means fourteenwinter head of the queue, followed by tobyprice.

  • Sorry for the slight derail - can someone clear this up for me...

...I thought mavic 'ceramic' rims were that all over blacky-grey coulour, but after having a look for some touring rims, and there were a few silver ones with the ceramic coating. Is it just a clear coating applied to any of the breaking surfaces?

  • maybe they are just using the picture of the normal rims

my open pro ceramics are grey on the braking surface

  • I just looked in my cupboard and some of my cups and mugs aren't a dull grey so its possible the ceramic coating could be made in different colours.

  • maybe they are just using the picture of the normal rims

my open pro ceramics are grey on the braking surface

+1 mine are black all over

These look like non-ceramic to me - still lovely wheels, and aside from alleged increase in longevity of the ceramics, they are identical

  • There is a huge increase in longevity. My first front wheel was a standard open pro, braking surface was nuked after 10 months. Ceramic one was used to replace it, there are a couple of chips in the ceramic surface after 18 months, but the surface is nowhere near worn down to the metal rim yet.

  • The front rim DOES have a ceramic braking surface, I know the difference and wouldn't confuse the two, but the picture is a bit crap. The ceramic finish gives the rim a sort of speckled/silica/marbled appearance and is a dark grey/ black colour. It must improve the longivity of the rim because after a year of use the braking surface on these still looks new.

The ceramic braking surface is available on both black and CD (the rather nice light grey enamel finish) rims. People often confuse CD rims with ceramic rims, but rims with the CD finish are available both with and without a ceramic braking finish. Hope that clarifies things.

  • my open pro ceramics and black on the tim and dark grey ceramic on the braking surface - afaik that's the only way they do the black ones

you could however get a ceramic grey rim surface and grey CD everywhere else but not seen these for years

p.s these rims fricking rock and cost a small fortune - recommend 100%

sounds like you slow down too much

    ;)

  • hence why brakeless would kill me

  • 3rd dibs (or wherever the hell I am in the queue) on the front wheel in the unlikely event of splitting and being willing to post. Just had my front wheel buckled this morning by someone turning right in front of me and hitting me at approx 1/2mph.

  • how long is the rear axle? 120 or 130?

  • I've had a bit of a crap/accident prone month, first I got food poisoning and vomited so violently I put my back out then I got struck down my catastrophic laryngitis. Not looking to have anyone break out the violins, but the upshot of this is that I have rather messed fourteenwinters about, so he, entirely understandably isn't interested in these any more, so there available again.

Simultaneously eeping track of "dibs" and "pms" gets messy, so of your interested in them no dibs please, just pm me. Wheels are now at work, 5 minutes from London Bridge, so can easily meet after work around London Bridge or somewhere near, maybe South East drinks?

Would just like to add a public apology to fourteenwinters, sorry mate :-)

120, if your looking for 130, I have a spare one one fixed/free wheel that's got 130 spacing, pm me if you're interested.

  • Just fyi, goldtec will do you a kit to convert the rEar to any spacing you want

  • I've pm'd you yesterday - I will take these wheels off you..!
