I know a very good acupuncturist (based in London Bridge). I see him for a non-injury related problem but after I fractured my elbow and hurt my wrist the treatment he gave me really helped. I also like the fact that acupuncture looks at your entire body rather than just the part that hurts. Osteopaths and physiotherapists are obviously brilliant for injuries.

I did think about him but Osteos tend to be more back related, non? My back has been giving me grief recently so was going to book in with him come pay day. Am holding out on stretching and Nurofen 'til then. But I don't grumble...

My physio is making me buy a CTI kneebrace so I can keep being the dick that I am.

get your doc to inject your knee with steroids to reduce the inflammation and check if there is cartilage damage.
If there is cartilage damage, there are ways to regenerate the cartilage, but im unsure if they do that on the NHS. -
• #15
Do steroids fix ligaments?
-
• #16
could be any number of things, unlikely to be ligaments in absence of a noticeable injury. Likewise cartilage.. but possible you could have some wear and tear to these if you played a lot of impact sports when younger. Also possible is early arthritis of the patellofemoral joint (kneecap/thigh bone joint). Steroid injections should be avoided unless you need temporary relief for a particular reason eg a race as they won't repair anything in particular. You may guess from my advice that I'm a doctor, but the bottom line is - see a specialist - best via your GP. Either a scan or arthroscopy will help diagnosis. Symptom relief with all the other services recommended above.
PM if you want any further advice.

Not being flippant, but if you need an op, you'd do well to get it done somewhere like Austria. They see thousands of knee injuries a year (skiing) and they're generally amazing at sorting them out. It might cost you, but you'll get seen within days, not the years it'll take on t he NHS...

fell off my bike last month, 10minutes after buying spd's.. bloody typical.
a trip to A&E, and 5 stitches in my chin later... and a sore knee, i thought id be back on my bike in no time.
anyway, went back to the hospital yesterday, cos my knee still hurt, and xrays showed some dark areas behind my knee cap. Doctor thinks its probably bits of cartledge, and im having an MRI next week to check.
basicly.. is there anything i can eat/ exercises i can do to speed up recovery? I was told i shouldnt ride a bike for another 3 months!

Surgery fixed mine.
I take Glucosamine and cod liver oil, but i'm not convinced it helps.
Rest rest rest.
There are often knee related threads on here, so I wondered for myself and others if any of you have seen an osteo/physio/shaman or similar type person who did your knee/knees the world of good? I have a recurring grumble behind and just at the bottom of my right knee-cap (banged it a few times in my youth, rugby, falling of motorbikes, that kind of thing). It's nothing major but it's noticeable. Thanks all.
