yeah, technically it's the 2010-2011 season, putting the present year seemed redundant as the National Championship is next year, but I'm not an expert (on anything) and don't really give two fucks about getting everything right.

Guys if you do go look out for a 16 year old kid Alex Welburn. He has podiumed at a few national races for MTB, Road, and cycle cross. Really quick and rides for Team Max Gear.

It seems the West Midlands Cyclocross League website is either having technical issues or has ceased to exist. Does anyone know anything about it?
-
• #13
How come they don't ride MTB's on courses like that?
-
• #14
Because they can't afford a mountain bike, although my pops is a champion cyclocross rider

There's often not much rough terrain to warrant the suspension..... With big clearances to clear debris, they are light and powerful to get up and around the course, that will often have obstacles that need the bike to be slung over the shoulder for a short section. A cyclocross race is so much fun, and so exhausting....

Ah, found it. It seems their sponsor is hosting the website now:
http://waldrons.wmccl.net/site/index.phpI've sent them an email asking if there are any beginner races or trial days happening in the near future. Anyone else interested?

Can you enter these on an mtb if you wanted to? ( I have a cross bike but its a single speed )
-
• #18
The only mention of what their specifications are is this I think
You don’t need any specialist equipment to start, as long as your bike is safe for yourself and others

A few HA&CC riders use MTB's in CX races I think
-

You can usually ride with a MTB. It'll be slower and your wont qualify for points or places officially but it's fine.

Hope my Barry Hoban be awright for CX. Should get working on my upper body strength or I'll have to run to the pits and grab a car jack to get it over the hurdles.
Also, I don't ave clipless pedals/shoes. Have people been known to use flat pedals for easy of getting-on/off-bike and added 'quick-foot-down-ability'?

What's the mud clearance like on that thing?

It has centre-pull brakes with probably about 20mm of clearance from top of tire to caliper. The frame and forks has loads of room with 32c's. Its the orange one near the bottom of this thread

Ideal.
I had a 531c Barry Hoban race bike with italian bits (from the late '80s I think). I've not seen many others.
Anyone going to see some cyclocross this year?
I saw a few last year and it's not a bad spectator sport, plenty of crashes and pretty bikes to fetish over.
Sunday mornings, rain or shine, free to watch.
Nearest ones seem to be the Sedgley/Dudley race on 10th October and the NEC/Elmdon race the following week. Well worth a ride out if they're that near, I might do a few others too, Stratford kind of distances.
