You need to play with different video codec's on your computer. This has nothing to do with the camera really. It is not uncommon for computers to struggle with particular video encoding especially if it is HD.
What processor and ram you running btw?
My bro found he had to updrade to quad core before he could edit HD video.

It's an Intel core 2 duo T5450 @ 1.66ghz with 2gb of ram. Managed to find a hint online that a faster card (Scan disk extreme) might overcome the stuttering issue but codecs are familliar to me so will have a play.

That spec is low<mediocre for working with HD.
I also assumed that you had transferred to your hard drive, if you havent its very likely that the card read rate is the issue. Try that first.
Shooting video on the K-X and it won't play back in Windows Movie (Vista) without stuttering and jumping. Plays fine on the camera and I've read the video length will cut short on a slow media card but nothing covers the problem I'm having.(Inov8 4gb HC 'classic'- probably a bog standard card)
Any ideas?
