Good chance I can make this. The marathon ride was great with the timing spot on for the road closures which is pretty important I reckon. Unfortunately though I've no idea what happens with the goskyride, so can't offer any ideas about what would be a good time to get under way.
I'm game.

register for the rides in and you get 15% off at evans cycles
-

apparently you wont be able to ride at any speed because of sheer amount of people.
I'm out.
Saw some people with sky ride flouro jackets on in Victoria park today, didn't realise it was on today as well. -

I'm doing this with my Son
Some of the roads are closed from 7am and the event itself starts at 09:30am
So there may be the Possiblity of some stretches being availiable for a Blast before the Masses Descend.

That was probably a Skyride local

but I can't see any for August. It started pissing it down so sucks to be them anyway.
-
• #10
well thats the whole thing! be there 2 hours before the event startto ride the center of town free of traffic and commuters on their bikes and skyriders!
-
• #11
If my training goes well this week, I'll be aiming to do this. But it is touch and go at the moment. The Redbridge one was fun.
-
• #12
but you would earlier on - the marathon ride started at 6 or 6.30 or something
I'd be very up for some early quiet road action, if it starts at 9.30am then maybe even 8 or something would be early enough.
only question is would they let you down the route early, or as it's a bike event will the stewards be stopping people before the official start time?

That's fucking shite! I mean, surely they could have closed off a bit more than that.
Don't they ban traffic altogether on sundays in Bogota?
Fucking bollocks. But I will probably go. Even though we should feel free and safe to ride with our children on the Embankment and anywhere else any day.

what I don't really get is, I thought it would be a circle?
is there a set start point?
there doesn't seem to be an obvious way of doing the whole route?
-
• #16
I'm sure you'd be fine, it's designed to be doable for everyone.

It's mostly set up as a dual carriageway, i.e. you go west along one side of the route and come back the other way. I think the initial one ventured south of the river, but it'll take a few years for the ride to get bigger. Remember that the Berlin Sternfahrt has about thirty years' history and the authorities in London are notoriously reluctant to open the streets for this event.

Why Upper/Lower Thames St at all, it's hardly scenic, just an urban motorway walled in by nondescript office blocks.
Oh yeah, I know; most of the bridges go over it, so the route is chosen to minimise disruption to motor traffic, not to give cyclists a pleasant ride.

I'm doing an LCC ride starting/ending in Erith. Anyone here on that route?
Anyways, hope you can make it to Look Mum No Hands afterwards for the joyous party that is Bright Times®.
Bring the little ones too.

yes boss,
agreed on that.not much for Londons famous London to sort for a sat.
Cities all over the U.K are being feted for Skyrides,
the p.r is good, the cities get a dedicated officer for a year.
but it costs the Councils shitloads which they could spend on cycle taining,
events, bike recycling, led rides etc etc te cte cte c,
Im torn about the utility of it,
o.k---someone
find me some real evidence that these have long term benefits,
I ll be back. -

And in Mexico City, every Sunday they closed up Reforma Boulevard in the heart of the city until 2pm, so the locals can simply go out and cycle.
and the idea come from Bogota too.

I will be a leader on the Chingford, yes Chingford, feeder ride. Actually, it joins up with the Walthamstow one, but people in the Waltham Forest E numbers are welcome to join me.

don't see why this should be so expensive. it's just shutting roads. all you need is some cones.
but, yes, this should be done every sunday. and a proper loop. maybe victoria embankment/ blackfriars bridge/ stamford st/ upper ground/ lambeth bridge/ millbank/ birdcage walk / the mall / northumberland ave? that way traffic could still go over waterlook bridge, since we need traffic...

Despite it's shortcomings, I think I want to go, so that I can ride around Parliament square and the like with my lad. I imagine we'll enjoy the feeder ride too, there'll be loads of cyclists so it should be nice too. Need to find out which one is best for us coming from Shoreditch station.
