  • Hey Guys,

Given that I don't know a great deal about converting bikes into single speeds (other than you don't want vertical dropouts), would it be possible for you to tell me whether I could use this as the frame etc for a fixed conversion? Or to a flip flop hub, anyway.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

  • yes.

  • Only if you keep the giant reflector on the back.

  • Hehe, I hadn't actually noticed the reflector!

  • a, yes
    b, if you win it

  • Looks good for a first project.

    Hope you win it.

  • Love the mini mudguards.

Got some rusty ones from a Carlton Continental that I keep meaning to get re-chromed and fit them to my Bob Jackson.

  • I would really like a Carlton, would actually be my first choice. But I need a small frame size and have yet to come across one of that size on ebay etc.

  • Ask the seller if the seatpost and stem still move freely.

  • Yeah stem and seatpost can be a real killer where problems are rife!!!

  • I don't think it should present too many problems, it's already running single speed...

  • Oops reading fail, Sturmy Archer, no probs same chainline...

  • Cool. Thanks for the encouraging comments. Heh, will need a hell of a lot more advice if I do get it. Plenty more questions to come yet!

  • Am probably being fairly thick, but given that it says it's a 3 speed, howcome it looks as though it's single speed?

  • internal gear hub. its a lovley colour. x

  • I think it's gorgeous as is, oil in the hub gear, new cloth bar tape, check brakes/tires, adjust saddle height, good to go...

  • Dibs on the Sturmey Archer if you're getting rid of it.

  • Yep, nice enough. Be sure the seatpost isn't stuck would be the only caution.

  • ^It's chromed steel, less likely to be as stuck as Ally...

  • I think it's gorgeous as is, oil in the hub gear, new cloth bar tape, check brakes/tires, adjust saddle height, good to go...

    This.

I'd save the money on a new wheel by getting the one that's on re-trued and buy new tyres. If you're a newby then you might be glad of a couple of gears to get you going!

  • Lol.

  • Shades of Dark City...
