porteur rack is the term to look for. They are not that common and quite pricey, velo orange do one as do nitto. Some cheaper ones available form NL but I can't remeber the website.

Hello
I hope this isn't too old a thread to hijack...
Can anyone ID the front rack on the white MTB about halfway down the first page of this (http://www.lfgss.com/thread17292.html) thread please?
Thanks

Yes, I have. They are quite common here in Holland. They are used on many Gazelle-like city bikes. With these racks the steering is not affected by the load of the stuff you are carrying. You have to get used to the rack not moving along with your wheel, but they work very well.

I have one, pretty much how matt said.
brilliant stuff - doesn't affect the handling of the bike which helped a lots, well a tad if there's too much load, just be wary of your handlebar really, when I piles stuff on mine, sometime my handlebar hit it.
Another thing, if you don't mind having the extra piece of cylinder sticking out of your down tube, then you'll be fine.
very weird to ride it though, when you steer, the bike look like it's going straight.
Was going to get mine powdercoated to match the bike but couldn't be bothered.

Oh one last thing - it's pretty heavy, so if you're going to put it on your hip hop slaverly bicycle, you'll probably endo your way to the post office.

I feel this sudden urge of transporting stuff from point A to point B. Need a rack.

First, it's messenger bag, then rucksack, afterware come saddlebag, of which get bigger and bigger to the point of ditching it entirely for a front rack so you don't have to ride home holding a pizza box with one hand while steering and braking with the other.
And then eventually a rear rack combo with some panniers, and before you know it, you've gotten yourself a trailer;

First, it's messenger bag, ....yadda, yadda, yadda,.... and before you know it, you've gotten yourself a job at Evans...
No Ed... I'll stick with a rack, no dangling bits for me.
