  • Hi all,

My bike locks were cut off and removed at the huge bike rack at Bromley South station, (opposite the police station).

After a LOT of investigation, it was the council. They said they thought they were "dumped". I had a Abus Granit round the pole with a Kryptonite Fahg locked to that lock.

The council has given me the contractors number, and the guy in charge should be calling me back by 2 today.

The Fahg will be undamaged, so I want it back, and compensation to buy another lock. There was NO WARNING, and the council say it's fine to leave locks there if they are used regularly. They were left there for 5 days, (londer than usual as I had holiday from work), so I had to turn around and go back home and call in sick to work...

IF YOU NEED ANY DETAILS AND THIS HAS HAPPENED TO YOU PM ME.

Another thing, all the fucking locks that are actually dumped (all cheap ones), are still there! I saw one Kryptonite NY 3000 cut through and left there, this lock is also used regularly, I've seen the guy.

    Idiots.

  • Go to your local paper, they love negative council stories.

  • Same thing happened to me in town - Fag mini and evo mini both chopped - £150 worth of lock. Unfortunately I had an appointment I really couldn't miss so went straight into Evans and bought a new Fag mini for £90. Ouch.

    fuckers

  • ......They were left there for 5 days.......Idiots.

Did you know that some people who leave their expensive cars at airport carparks, for their month's holiday, come back
to find their cars stolen? The odd thing is not the theft, it the surprise that anything would happen to their cars if left
    for an inordinately long time.

I think leaving a bike overnight, even if just for one night, is too long at a public place.....especially a train station.

  • Not this again.

  • It pisses me off when there are 10 locks on a stand and no bikes. Carry the fucking thing you lazy shites.

  • fucking morons.

    @dan - price match fail :(

I was on the way to Camden town hall to register a death - price match was the last thing on my mind.

Oh and GA2G - it's a lock, not a car.. if I left my bike somewhere for a week I would fully expect it to be stolen.. but leaving a lock somewhere for a day? I think not.

They weren't on the stands, everyone locks them on the poles supporting the shelter. So doesn't get in the way of others.

He just left the lock I think

It's a lock, not a bike. And wasn't stolen, council fucking removed them.

  • They cut through several hundreds of pounds worth of locks (WITHOUT BIKES), and without ANY warning.

Why does it piss you off? It doesn't stop you using the stand if it's in use.

I think it makes sense. If you don't use the lock on your journey home then I don't see the problem of leaving it where you use it. Otherwise you're just luggin it around for nothing. In Holland they even add section to some bike racks for you to hang your lock from. Excellent thinking, I reckon. Far nicer than building lots of beautiful multi story carparks.

    +1

On these ones with the extra horizontal bar across they often get in the way when there is literally 10 of them on there.

Plus half of them are probably abandoned/forgotten.

These locks were not on the bit where you lock up. They were on the POST that supports the shelter, i.e. well out of the way.

  • Yes, I read post #10.

A fail on so many levels.

Sounds like they hired some guy with a angle grinder/blowtorch and he felt he had to use it on something.

So only annoying on a particular type of bike stand, used a certain way and over subscribed then.

  • ^ pretty much yes :S

  • the more alarming thing is that you called in sick when you clearly were not sick. Should have taken a days holiday.
Okay, so maybe I was a manager for a bit too long :-)

  • My error.

I can can recommend a very good solicitor from Brixton.

He jasn't been released yet (HM.Prisons), but he is very good.

  • i leave a shitty lock outside brixton popo so i only take 1 when popping to shops. shitty story.
