Rubber plants are very hardy and don't require much attention. Spider plants also.
Don't go for temperamental things like weeping figs or ferns. They die pretty quickly if not in the exact environment -

I had loads in my student house, but they all died when I went to new zealand.
I love plants/ gardening, and was quite sad my housemate let them die tbh...
Found that it helped with the damp smell of the house too.

dragon trees are pretty low maintenance, another option is to get a load os lucky bamboo and stick them in a big vase of water - no feeding or maintenance and they look good when they start sprouting

Yes dragon trees are nice and easy
what plants would people recommend to add a bit of colour or life to my flat. never really attempted anything like this before, as i go away alot etc.
