For Sale: Gios Frame / How Much?

Posted on
  • Hi!

Been asked by a friend from my native country to see how much he could sell this Gios Frame + Fork.

    52x53 CC

Paint is not good at all.

    Suggestion are very welcome....

  • dibs for £50 !

  • £50-100 on here I should guess.

  • dibs for £60!

  • are you sure it's a real gios? forks in particular don't look quite right, and looks like a respray at first glance

does it have any gios stampings on the frame / bb shell?

  • I will email my friend now, see if I can find out about the fork. Will ask if he's willing to sell on here and how much.

  • fishing expedition....

  • I got few more pics of the frame.

£120 posted to yours or to mine in Hackney Central for collection in person.

The frame comes from Bergamo in Italy.

  • is that even a real gios frame?

  • I don't know, I'm sure someone here can tell.

I was just asked to post as a favor.

I've bought other stuff from him and never had a problem.

  • I'm afraid it doesn't look like a Gios to me - the cut outs on the BB and the drop outs don't look right - a real one looks like this (it ain't for sale). The frame details suggest a 70s/early 80s frames and yet the decals and forks are 1990s. Headbadge is riveted and not a sticker too.

  • very nice gios,mister dog

  • The seat stays are the wrong shape...

the need to have an indent at the braze point where they meet the seat cluster...ie the tube has a flat spot and not a traditional shape like this frame...

gios frames have always had that from early early...

have to agree with monty dog...the forks do not match the frame either...the braze ons for the gear wires are 70's ...the forks are at least 80's or later...

  • That cool.

I wasn't able to say, that's why I asked here.

    Thanks everyone for your help.

The Gios in the Rapha cafe (which was def not a fake) had a sticker as a headbadge even though mine is riveted, so I think stickers are possible.

But I still think your right that this is a fake, the cut outs on the BB dont look right at all.

  • Looks fine to me.
Seen a fair few Gios's through the shop and many have that fork. Fairly usual on the lower end models.

but the seat stays are wrong...don't all gios have the same cut out seat stays?

it's tryinhg to look like this...though it isn't.

  • Just to add my little bit in here.....

I've seen genuine Gios frames without the cut out on the seat stays. Back in the eighties. So it could possibly be genuine. Dare I say, like many frame builders, they've been through various periods of prosperity, where they used in-house builders, outsourced builders, bought frames in etc.

    Just my opinion !

  • Ah, theres my ebay Gios frame! My forks are not original either. They are aluminium for a start. Still trying to work out which one mine is. It has too many Gios features to not be genuine. But possibly modified top tube cable guides.

Anyway. Gios chrome forks normally look a lot nicer than the forks on your frame. I'm not sure on the frame either. They didn't all have the gios cutout bb shell though... I haven't seen them with that detail in the headtube lugs either.

Do you have any more pics of the top of the seat stays? I think those decals would normally be on their newer frames and the newer frames would have 'Gios' stamped all over the place.

  • fishing expedition....

    agreed

this...There are none of the many little things they did...it's got no pantographing, it has no drilling, it hasn't got the seat stays, or anything that would scream gios...and they always have something to be conclusive?
