Your drive may just simply not like what you're trying to play. Your drive may have developed 'taste'. It happens after approx 4 years.
I'd suggest you try to watch 'Spice World - collectors edition' on a newer drive, or a simple DVD player.

Is that it then ?Your keyboard is sending an eject button press to your computer, this means your actual real eject button is screwed (got some crap in the contacts, you spilt some liquid on it a while back or any other number of physical reasons).
Here are your options.
1) Buy a new keyboard.
2) Look on the internet for a free bit of software that remaps button function (kill the eject key and put it on a F key).
3) Pull off the eject key, clean out all the crap under it, replace key.

I would just like to solemnly announce that my elderly PC died 2 days ago - the operations kindly offered on here were too much I fear.
Thanks anyway.

I believe PC World now offer counseling for people in your position. Don't be afraid to ask for help. It takes a big man to cry sometimes.

In other news my laptop is so slow when running XP I am sorely tempted to defenestrate it.

**Nope **
So - the DVD/Disc tray keep opening and shutting on my elderly computer and I can't stop it. Its feels like someone has taken control of the thing and is pissing about.
I'd describe the frequency of this as er... random.
Its driving me nuts Doctor !
Please help.
