I am reluctantly selling my vintage Mercier, that i have long intended to restore, but now finally admit i will never get round to.
This is a beautiful machine, and i would love to see it go to someone who can do it justice.
I believe it was originally made in the mid 70's. The frame is full Reynolds 531, as is the fork, and features some awesome lugwork, including an M cut-out on the downtube.
The previous owner made some nice upgrades from new, to what was a highly specced machine already. There is a full Simplex transmission, with Stronglight cranks - all top of the range for the time. All the parts are original, and work perfectly - the Simplex gears are a joy to use. Braking is taken care of by Mafac Racers, with the original levers and hoods. Nothing is seized, and the only part i have replaced is the seatpost, which is set at the minumum insert point in the pics as i dont want to scratch it.
The wheels are MA Rims with tubs, running on Campag Hubs - the tires are gone, and need replacing, so the bike cannot be ridden away - i had planned on rebuilding the hubs which are perfect, with some velorange clincher rims.
The bike is pink with gold luglining, a replica of the Mercier Gan team bike as used by Raymond Poulidor. The paintwork is ok, and the frame is straight and true. Has brazeons for a rack and guards on the dropouts.
With new rims and brakekcables, the bike would be good to go, but with a new paintjob as well, and a bit of elbow greese, you would have a stunning machine. I have ultrarare NOS Reynolds 531 replacement decals in French which will be included in the sale.
The Saddle which is not period to the bike, but looks good on it IMO, is included in the sale.
I am looking for £175, collection in Battersea
