  • Alas it's time for me to sell this, the main reason is that I hasn't ridden it enough to warrant keeping it, currently it's sit inside the shed gathering dust for the last couple of months, also I'm a little tight this month due to less client offering works, so here's the spec;

    1954 Holdsworth Zephyr 531 butted track/path frame with fillet brazed everything apart from the headtube, it's an unusual design and was probably build as a hill climber, it's all original with the original decal still in one piece despite some chipping, the paintjob is silver but due to the clearcoat, it's now a wonderful shade of champaign silver, which look nicer than the original all-silver paint, the measurment is 57cm ST and 56cm TT, more to add;

    you should add that this is a particularly rare frame. it has a mix of lugs (lovely curly ones) at the front and really excellently done fillet brazing at the rear. i've never seen another holdsworth frame that has that.

    It's running on Velo Orange highly polished 700c wheels instead of 27" but with 32" Panaracer Pasela PG tyres, it fill up the clearance enough to not need a 27" wheelset, it's a pretty light wheelset and the rear hubs has been respaced for 110mm.
    The stem is a Titan adjustable from the 30's, but with a modern alu clamp instead of the original (which will be included with the bike), as the original is quite brittle and to prolonged it's life, I put the alu clamp to preserve it, note - this bike isn't a restoration, the parts I chosen is merely to able to run it everyday without fail.
    The crankset are your typical Campag Pista with 49t chainring, the BB is a 2009 Centaur, probably the best one I've ridden, pedal are MKS RX-1 with MKS cage.
    The saddle is a Brooks B17 from the 60's, and it doesn't have the clamp for saddlebag and the like, still in top condition and the leather is much better than the current one!

    it's drilled for both front and rear brake (originally), currently it doesn't have brakes, but I will provided a NOS brake levers to go with the bike, the gum hood can be removed and ridden without it, I found it surprisingly comfortable without the hood.

    The price is £600 (delivered by me within London) which I feel is a sensible amount for a rare frame with quality part, with 1950 geo and 32c tyres, the bike is very comfortable to ride, lastly the Marshall spokecard won't be included so don't worry about looking like a twat with it on the wheel.

    (NEW PICTURE ADDED).

  • OOOF! bloody lovely that!

  • measurement c-c or c-t on seat tube

  • C-C on both ST and TT.

  • awesome

  • Fantastic

  • I'm in love with that stem

  • Almost forget to mention, gearing is 20/49, a nice 65GI with a 165mm crank.

  • Gosh. I wish I had £600.

  • what hubs (system-x?), seat post and headset?

  • yep system ex, seatpost are push 26.6 and headset is a BMX one.

  • 26.6 on a holdsworth???

  • it probably mean that the frame is a plain gauge 531 rather than the butted 531 of which have 27.2.

    plain gauge is 501 then??

  • 531 was originally plain gauge actually before it become available as butted, double butted, oversized, ovalised, taper etc.

    edit - found the badge (spelling a bit off);

  • so what sticker is on the bike?

    easy way to test is to tap along the tube, if it changes in resonance in middle compared to ends it DB.

  • Ow, my nail bloody hurt from flicking the frame.

    as far as I can tell, it's butted 531, not plain gauge (comparing it to my other frame with is double butted).

  • This is bloody lovely!

  • Is it not just possible its another make of tubing? Ask Hilary.

  • Could be Accles and Pollock. Think those are about the skinniest fork blades I've ever seen, very elegant.

  • it's very skinny, and have a lovely fork crown too, need to post more picture.

  • new picture added.

  • ed, did this sell? Interested in the wheelset if you decide to split.
    Cheers,
    Kam

  • Hasn't sold it yet, and I',m not splitting, mostly due to the likeihood of me keeping certain component after splitting them (like the stem, or the crankset).
