Calling all couch-surfers and informal lodgers

  • This is an opportunity to participate in a comparative study taking place in both London and Paris. The study is for a French charity, but it is being co-ordinated by the company I am working for, so if you meet the criteria and would like to participate, or if you know someone who you think might be interested, please PM me.

The researchers will arrange to come and meet you where you live and interview you there. There are no incentives (ie money) available for doing the interviews, but by all accounts they are interesting.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR TWO CATEGORIES OF PEOPLE:

1- Young people who live in someone else’s house (i.e., not with parents or a partner) and who are:

    • aged 18-19 OR 29-30
    • living in South, North or East London
    • in temporary or permanent accommodation
    • living for free or paying rent (but do not have a formal lease)
    • working in interim or vocational employment (shop workers, couriers, etc)

2- People who are providing accommodation to someone (not their child) in their home and who are:

    • under 40 years old
    • male
    • living in South, North or East London
    • black or other minority ethnic
    • providing temporary or permanent accommodation
    • providing accommodation for free or for payment (but do not have a formal lease)

    WHAT ARE WE DOING?
We are a London-based consultancy firm doing research into new types of living arrangements and the new relationships that people have with the concept of a home. We would love to interview you to find out about your experience.

WHY ARE WE INTERESTED IN THIS?
More and more people go through phases in their life where they live in someone else’s home (not nuclear family). To meet this demand, more people are offering temporary accommodation in their home.

We are very interested to learn more about this growing phenomenon. It might be caused by economic factors or other factors, but it might also tell us about the evolution of social relationships and relationships with the home, changes in family life and ways of living.

  • No Wests? Racists.
    West is Best.

  • Ask the Crowe!

  • wests is literally sardine packed full of cunts, or is the term 'wetlips' now..

  • Only reason for ruling out Westies at this stage is that we've already got our quota. Seriously, if you do know anyone who may be interested, let me know. We need three more people to make our numbers for the study. It hasn't been easy since we're not paying incentives for this one.

  • I'd very much like a young person to come and live in my house - 29-30 would be fine, but they would need to be cute..... can you be 'cute-ist' ;-)

  • Pics of couch?

  • wests is literally sardine packed full of cunts, or is the term 'wetlips' now..

Murtle will be along shortly to have words.. at least we think they're words..

  • We're running a follow-on workshop for this, details below. The Pizza will be of a high quality, I shall personally guarantee it.

Are you aged 18-30? Living in Greater London? Living with at least one other person (as guest) in their home, without having a formal tenancy agreement with them? (whether or not you pay rent doesn’t matter.)

Or are you host to someone aged 18-30 in your Greater London home? (Again, whether or not they pay you rent is irrelevant for this workshop – so long as you don’t have a formal tenancy agreement/contract with them.)

This living arrangement could be as short as a month or a long-term situation.
Are you free between 6.30 and 8.30pm on THURSDAY 17th FEBRUARY 2011 to attend a workshop in central London and tell us more about this living arrangement?

This workshop is part of a research project by a small housing charity.
Travel expenses and PIZZA provided in return for just 2hrs of your time!

Please email guestandhost@shm-ltd.co.uk or call 020 7242 5504 and ask to speak to Sarah or Lauren if you can answer yes to our questions. Many thanks and we look forward to hearing from you!
