ben just do it. SRAM is really really good. I mean REALLY good. assuming you don't have little girly hands or an addiction to missed gear changes, just do it. it's sharp, precise and very intuitive. I have a force groupset on one bike and rival on the other, there's little noticeable difference at all.

a bit OT but can someone post/tell me the equivalency of SRAM and campy/shimano groupsets?
I know Red is their best so. .- Red = Durace ace/Record/Super Record
- Red = Durace ace/Record/Super Record

Braker is fucking massive. 64cm frame I think, but he's riding SRAM now.
I have a 57 Bianchi with SRAM Red you can 'whizz' around on.

it all gets a bit dubious with so many subtle differences but it is often said:
Dura Ace = Red
Ultegra = Force
105 = Rival - Red = Durace ace/Record/Super Record

Someone have a little chart showing the comparison better.
need to find it.

Can't find it but found Smallfurry comment about the comparison of each groupset;
You cant really compare them directly, especially now that Campag have added more groupsets. It might be something like the list below, but then I've just pulled that out of the air, with little logical basis. I cycle around the in cold of Norway wearing shoes and clothes designed in the warmth of Italy. So I cant really lecture folk on taking the practicle option. but I'd say decide which of the main three manufacturers you like best in terms of fit and function, and buy the best groupset you can afford in their range.
Super Record
Record - Dura Ace - Red
Chorus
Athena - Ultegra - Force
Centaur
- 105 - Rival
Veloce
- 105 - Rival

bah. i'd take rival over super record or DA any day. though I've not played with Di2 yet :)

Di2 is a huge improvement, with this electronic gadget on the groupset, shifting gears felt a lots easier and only required a slight push of the finger to shift gear, even shifting over two cog at once, rather than pushing the shifter enough to pull the cable in order to shift.
But this is what I'll tell you Fred, don't ever try it, you'll find your current groupset felt 'sluggish' in comparison, I know I did.
The Di2 is defintely best left for those who's racing for pro, rather than a sunday roadie.

have you ridden a decent number of miles on Di2? SRAM?
(decent = climbs, sprints, races, not just on the flat)
-
• #12
The Di2's a 10 minutes ride, it's not my bike after all! but like to try out the SRAM.
My only experience is Ultegra, Centaur, and the latest Di2.
BTW, a while ago you said the Condor Pista is a very stiff and uncomfortable frame, but turn it to be quite the opposite, methinks you were referring to the old alu frame with the track geo than the new one.

but all the (non Di2) shimano feels sluggish (compared to SRAM)...?
I mean like, comedy sluggish
-
• #14
i think i was referring to the 06 or 07 steel condor pistas
-
• #15
Let just says it doesn't felt as precise as the Di2 that is really, sluggish probably not the right word.

if you want the next level of shifting technology, de-tune your mechs for a bit, and enjoy mind power shifting, as the chain jumps around depending on power/ road surface, purely at your minds will.
Much better than di2! -

Scobles rides Di2?
I thought you had a cruiser???

Rival is a bit hit and miss I find, the chainrings flex and the rear mech needs a jockey wheel upgrade. But, the chain, cassette and shifters are as good as DA in my opinion.
Super record is very good and very light, wanky shaped hoods though.
I'd rate the groupsets this way:
Di2 > Red / SR / Record > Force / Chorus > Rival / Ultegra / Athena > Everything else

As long as you don't have Saxo Bank team mechanics setting it up for you SRAM is good shit.

when did scoble become the almighty knowledge database of groupsets?....
is this like his supreme knowledge of "genuine track geometry".... despite never actually riding at a track?
Does anyone have a large (58-61cm) frame fitted with SRAM Rival or Force that I could have a quick whizz around on? In exchange you can whizz on my Dolan around HH.
I'm interested in trying them out before going ahead and whacking em on my new bike which comes with Ultegra (which I'm unsure about using). As an added bonus if you like Ultegra (2009) and I like your SRAM we could do a new for old straight swap.
Thanks
B
