  • I have a Condor Pista, 55cm, in lovely condition apart from the following:

...it has developed a serious crack around the seat lug area – see the attached three pics. It seems to be split along the seat tube in a direction parallel to the top tube, down both sides. There is then another crack across the top of the seat tube/top tube joint. I’ve taken the best images I can.

I bought it like this recently and the previous owner tells me that the damage is as a result of it being ridden with a very short seatpost. The damage looks consistent with this.

I have had a local engineering company look at it and they think they can do a good repair by tig welding the cracks....they are very reputable and do most of their work in the aerospace industry so I think this must be possible.

The alternative is a new top and down tube, which will be in the region of £180 (mercian quote). I have already got another frame to build the parts onto and I don't think I can be bothered getting the repair done...so does anyone else want to take it on?

I will sell frame, BB, carbon forks and aheadset for £100 as is, or £175ish if I get the welding done

The frame is in otherwise great condition with barely a scratch so will build into a nice bike for someone prepared to get the issues sorted

    Anyone?

  • bloody 'ell... whats goin on, Condor?

  • I wouldn't want to knock Condor as I've owned 5 of their bikes and have never had any problems....I think this was the previous owners doing, to be honest!

BTW, my new one is also a Condor Pista!!

  • Exact same crack.

  • Now The Bad Bit:There Is A Small Crack That Goes Around the Top Tube (see photo) Where the Seat Stem Enters The Frame, This Was Due To Using A Very Short Seat Stem

That's the bike.....although I think the crack is slightly worse than portrayed in the ebay ad, to be honest...! My pics above are a fairer reflection

  • You paid £250 for a cracked Condor Pista?

Oh and short seatposts aren't the issue. The frames are dropping like flies.

  • Ermmmmmm. I aint buying the whole short seat pin thing, sounds more like poor manufacturing.

Condor should do the right thing and replace frame or at least sell new one at cost price. If it were me I would write a v. polite begging letter to them.

  • does anyone want this...I'm prepared to listen to offers.....forks, aheadset and BB must be worth £50, so the frame is a bargain if you want to get it fixed....

  • and every body rips the 2005 langster.

  • take it to condor?

  • Take it to Con>Door.

Ask them nicely. Tell them you've had, and will continue to have, faith in their frames as you've owned five of theirs before. Would they be willing to trade it, even for some parts? They might be grateful to have yet another of these, so they can sue the arse off which ever dodgeballs are making all these dodgy ones for them.

    Just a thought.

  • and every body rips the 2005 langster.

Who is everybody? Isn't the 2005 alu? I'd love one. I always wanted the EOM one.

  • Hipsters, trendsters, hippies. mostly everyone.

  • I have made the call to Condor and am now the proud owner of a brand spanking new Pista at trade price...very pleased!

Old one still here if anyone wants to make an offer for it...with welding applied could be a good posh polo bike???

  • for polo bike even with the crack will do

Well done you. Another victory for the forum's (largely) sensible advice...

    My body was ripped in 2005. But I didn't own a L'angster.

Now I'm fat. What bike does Gok Wan say I should ride these days..?

  • i'll give you £25 for it.

I agree - although I have ended up spending more than I should on the bike (as you do) but now have essentially a new bike...result!

  • This is precisely what happened to my 2007 condor, exactly the same crack.

For the record, I never rode it with a short seat post - there was always a good 8 to 10 inches in the seat tube.

Took it back to Condor and they offered me a like for like replacement. In the end, I took the cash value of the frame and put it in toward a lugged Pista Classico.

Looks like they have some quality control issues with that tubing / frame build. I think they switched to Alu tubing the year after, but I am not sure. edscoble will have info ;-)
