  • Didn't realised how many riders ride the TdF with broken bones till they listed all the injuries among the riders today.

I rode (and taught cycling as a trainer) for around 14 days with a broken shoulder until the pain got bad enough to go to a doctor and get x-rayed. Have also ridden for 2 days with a split patella until it swelled up so much that i couldn't move the knee at all.

what riding have you done broken?

  • Various, most recently every day with left 5th metatarsal in three pieces...

  • collar none
and small bone in my wrist (with a caste)

  • fractured schaphoid in cast. Still have marks on my bar tape where the cast rubbed off the tape

  • Probably easier to ride with some breaks than it is to walk.

i stopped riding when my shoulder fracture was discovered though it must have got jarred more on foot than on wheels

  • Broken ankle... Didn't know it was broken so carried on as usual just waiting for the pain to subside... It was easier cycling than walking, I just geared down more than normal.

  • Riding broken is the new riding fixed.

  • only with a broken heart

  • lbbss.com

  • Broken humerous. 10 miles one handed on MTB before diagnosis.

  • Metacarpals and two ribs. It feels like shit now. My both hands feel like those of suffering from arthritis 80 yo.

  • Broken humerous. 10 miles one handed on MTB before diagnosis.

Oh if you are including that I rode a mile after breaking my collar bone, then the pain got too much so I walked and carried the bike the rest of the way?!

I've also gone home from west drinks many times broken.

  • it is amazing that so many people are happy to ride with broken bones. On the occasional discussions about this with my GP her instinct is to advise not to cycle whaatever the injury

jostling with peds on the pavement and squeezing into tubes and onto buses was much more painful for my shoulder than being on my bike

  • I've also gone home from west drinks many times broken.

    wasn't me

  • Broken humerous. 10 miles one handed on MTB before diagnosis.

    I bet that was funny.

I was told that by my GP.

The same about testicular cysts (and I know many members of this forum suffers or suffered from them).
Interestingly, an urologist told me, to carry on riding, as long as I wear lycra shorts to keep junk in place and use a good saddle.

I was also advised to play more Lotto by a surgeon attending my sprained handy-wandy last week. She's said, that I'm obviously a very lucky individual, because I haven't broken my collar bone yet (WTF?!). She must be in the know with all the cycling trends nowadays.

  • rode bmx at a skatepark with my leg in a cast... only wee airs and some manual lines though...

  • perhaps we are more likely to break bones as cyclists since it seems we have a lower bone density due to not bearing weight (or is this just bad science?)

  • Had to ride back home with this injury, ouch.

8+weeks later and not 100% fully healed but am able to cycle again. Now left with my right arm permanently longer than the other with a distinctive lump on my shoulder.

  • ^ouch!

    Oh, I'm bearing weight alright.

  • broken wrist, once when i was a kid, until it snapped hopping up a pavement. I stop riding and walked after that.

  • After an epic mountain bike crash I had to ride 25 miles home with a dislocated shoulder and a few broken ribs.

    Type two separation?

  • Rode my motorbike with a broken (pinned and plated) Fib / Tib. Had to carry my crutches with me because I couldn't really walk when I got off. Like someone else mentioned, a LOT less scary than public transport!
