  • either the appropriate plastic thing or a bit of wood.

  • an old skewer if you have one, if not go to a bike shop and they usually have plastic things for it

  • Roll up a piece of thick cardboard, which is cut to the same width of dropout.

    Tape it to stop unravelling and to hold in place.

    As strong as wood and easy to find.

  • Most bike shops will give you the plastic dropout protectors that new frames have for protection for free. Failing that, use cardboard as Dwayne suggests.
