  • Of course they get it wrong sometimes but I'd like to see you do a better job. I've noticed recently there have been quite a few police success stories and they largely get ignored or the 'success' is that of the poster and not the police.

I have a theory about this. It's simply because it's 'cool' to dis the po po. Next time before posting some derogatory comment about them for the sake of it or to be seen to be 'cool' try growing up a bit first.

  • Thats a complex and well thought out theory. I'm sure no-one will argue with it.

  • Lovely fellas, look how they are helping out this chap;

  • he's clearly slipping... guvnor

  • Can you give me a few examples of police success stories?

  • Popo = authority, no-one actually likes authority (the most positive association is respect), but it is a social necessity.

As a kid I thought the police were cool if that counts?

  • Not a moment ago I posted this...

    Weird timing.

It did however stand out in that it was the exception rather the rule.

  • that's also them doing what they should be doing in the first place: applying the law fairly to all road users.

    YouTube- N.W.A FUCK DA POLICE

  • this is a complex issue in the uk. seems as if the police only do what is asked of them and ignore everything else. also this whole thing of having police without guns, PCSO's and all the crap from above.

all i know is that in aus, fair enough people still don't like police, BUT they seem to actually do things. If you ride without a helmet you will be caught and fined straight away. If you speed ie 3 kmh over speed limit, you will get caught and fined. If you drink and drive, you will be caught. I you don't have a license you will be caught. If you have a unroadworthy vehicle you will be caught. If you call the police for an emergency they will be there ASAP.

Interesting. So I suppose you never tip waiters or cab drivers nor say thank you when someone serves you in a shop?

  • I have no issue whatsoever with the Police, but then I'm not a Brazilian electrician.

  • YouTube- N.W.A FUCK DA POLICE

this video is sooo dated and childish

  • I have been punched in the chest by a copper when I questioned his knowledge of the law, had two off duty police officers turn up at my flat at 2am with the shoulder numbers off to check my "welfare" after I told an employer to do one (obviously friends of his)

not to mention the police not being interested in the house breakings I have had, assaults, muggings..but thats just my story, there are plenty more out there.

yes there are a lot of good police in the UK but the number of pigs is overwhelming and prominent.

  • applying the law fairly to all road users.

Yep. I generally think that all types road users abuse the laws in equal measure. The issue is that the consequences of the abuse committed by some are far greater than others.

  • See how easy it is to attack my thoughts? Of course they fuck up, they just don't fuck up all the time and when they do get it right they get little to no support certainly from the majority.

Lee_Wood you should UTFS but I'll be nice and give you some examples:

    Is that OK for you?

    haha

Same in the US. Saw someone stealing furniture from a house next door and called the cops - vehicle description, license plate, everything - 45 seconds later - 1 helicopter over head, 1 blue and white hauling ass with lights blazing in the last direction of travel, and another outside my house to ask one or two questions. They caught him within 5 minutes.

I think the general consensus here is that people don't get caught. You see more breaking of the law than enforcement of it.

  • Personally, I never had a problem with the police and actually wanted to be one for a while (you know, help the community and all that), but after a certain event my view has completely changed.

A couple of years ago I was at a demonstration, and was kicked by several policemen and then arrested for assault, obstructing the highway, conspiracy to commit criminal damage and aggravated trespass, all for just standing around! Seeing the complete ineptitude of the police and CPS in handling the case (got my name wrong several times, didn't give documents by deadlines, general fuckwittery that you would not expect) has made me sceptical of any CPS guilty (or not guilty) verdict. Fast forward a year to the trial, I had a really good barrister, solid character witnesses, but as I had no independent witnesses it was my word against the incomprehensible and incongruent stories of 4 policemen. So I was found guilty of 2x assault police and obstruct the highway.

Then in this April I had my appeal, and no evidence was offered by the CPS...

A lot of what the police do is valuable to the community but it seems that behind the scenes they are just a bumbling load of idiots and the only things they seem to do well are because anyone could do them well. Other things seem to just be policed to either meet targets or to demonise certain sections of society.

And why is a general distrust of the police a bad thing? I think more people should question what they are doing, even if they are doing it well, because I think being all cosy with them leads to complacency.

  • The criminal community aren't actually worried by the threat of the Police or even prison - they view it as an occupational hazard.

  • Interesting. So I suppose you never tip waiters or cab drivers nor say thank you when someone serves you in a shop?

? Do you tip someone else's waiter for giving them adequate service? Say thanks to a bin-man for taking out your neighbours bins? Or are you saying that every time I see a cop doing his job and pulling folk over I should suck his cock/lick her minge in a frenzy of gratitude?

I've never been arrested, pulled over for RLJing or anything because I don't do it. I have been stopped and searched on the most bullshit premises ever, and dealt with rude, arrogant po-po too. Some of my friends have had positively harrowing experiences with police where they have been racially insulted or threatened. I don't think that is reflective of all cops however, and am fully aware it must be a difficult, harrowing job, even if it is one they choose to do.

If I ever require their services and feel they have been helpful, of course I'd thank them, just as I would thank a waiter or a doctor or any other human being. What Van Uden is suggesting from the lofty heights of his soap-box is that we are all mindless cretins who daily scoff at the police because we want to be cool, and that we ignore positive reports of them. Not so. I've read plenty of folk acknowledge good cops on here. Just so happens some people possess the capacity for reason...

  • Interesting. So I suppose you never tip waiters or cab drivers nor say thank you when someone serves you in a shop?

tipping is an extra reward for above-average service, not an extra added cost which must always be paid. People in general seem to have become complacent and expect praise and recognition for an average effort at that which they are expected to do in the first place.

having said that, I always thank people who serve me

  • And something that really pissed me off, there were 11ish people arrested on the day, and I think there were <3 convictions, and they were because the people pleaded guilty. But, most of these people (me included) were using legal aid, how much do you think 2 years of legal aid costs for 11 people? The man hours put into trying to secure convictions that would mostly not be in the public interest makes me wonder how many thousands of £'s was pissed away.

    ?

Sorry, I have no idea what UTFS means...

But what do you mean you'll be nice? You offered an opinion, I asked you to back it up yet you seem to have taken exception to that?
