sounds too small, 51cm suggests to me for someone 5'5 to 5'8 max i would have thought ....although a lot depends on top tube length

just going through gumtree,
two options.
brian rourke 56cm 531 vintage frame for 80-100
or a focus for about 30.
Im just wondering is it better to spend the cash on a frame as im gonna end up replacing so much on a beater bike. seat/brakes/wheels(maybe)
what are the frames like on vintage focus bikes, decent?

you probably want a 57-59cm frame, but, you will not really know until you try one out. if this is your first bike, try spending as little as possible, and be careful with gumtree sales as stolen bikes are frequently sold on there.

this is the focus. I dont get the impression its nicked.
is 80-100 about right for a brian rourke frame?

that focus doesn't look to good tbh
Depending on what kinda money you got to spend, i'd look for a frame made of Reynolds 531 or better, and with proper drop outs such as this
and not a pressed one like this
Cheap frames usually have pressed dropouts, more expensive frames hasn't. It's quite an easy way to spot that the frame isn't absolute crap and made of scaffolding at least
There's plenty of 531 frames in this country so shouldn't be too hard to find one for a good price (50-80 or so)

take your time, don't rush in, find something you like the look of, in the right size and then buy
take 2hrs to go through velospace / fixedgeargallery and do some pleasurable reasearch on bike and all things bike related

Iv'e been reading away, but theres a fine line between spending money on rubbish and a bargain. lol
Ive been offered a gazelle with campag crank, 501 tubing and mauvic rims for £100.
its 51cm though? is that too small do you think?
im six ft in height, big enough legs lol
