agar, this thread should have gone in the BIKES & BITS or into the GENERAL section.
Your bike is not a (named) Ride or a Race, or is it? ;)
Alternatively, you could have posted this question in the OTP thread, or the OTP Lovers thread.
Yes. A+

I never really liked my ridgeback. I was kind of relieved when it got nicked.

Its the same as the genesis flyer, it even says genesis on the dropouts. I thinks its pretty good especially as it has eyelets for full guards which keeps my ass dry when riding to work.

Exactly, its the old style Genesis Flyer

My old Genesis Flyer definately didn't have room for full length mudguards

It's the same as the old Genesis Skyline. Compared to the Flyer - slightly longer wheelbase, slightly more relaxed geometry and mudguard clearance (long drop brakes). I've had a Skyline for a couple of years - the frame's a keeper - just changed out pretty much everything else over time (except the crankset which is a decent Sugino Messenger). Don't see many of them around - maybe the mudguards made it hipster unfriendly? So now you know...

Have to agree with Rab about the frame and crank set have had my solo for a year and am pretty happy with it. Have recently changed quite a lot on mine though, but the standard components worked just fine for me. Still haven't seen another solo though and no one seems to have one on this site but me sigh
Rab you are as close as I will get.

I have one, I use it every day and I'm quite taken with mine.
It's used for commuting 30m a day, bit of shopping and the odd longer jaunt and like the rest of my bikes is molly-coddled, you could eat your dinner off the chain :)It's my only single speed and I think it's a pretty smart looking bike in a utilitarian kind of way.

I've got one of these, and much as I like it, I've had various problems. These may well be down to assembley by the retailer (Evans) rather than the bike itself.
The headset was set up wrong such that after a few hours riding it became very stiff. Both mudguards were set too low at the brake mounting point, rubbing against and damaging the tyres, The rear wheel had 3 broken spokes within the month I've owned it.
In fairness to Evans and Ridgeback, they've sorted all of this out quickly, and I now have a bike with better components than new at no extra cost, but it has been a significant inconvenience. I'll need to give it a few more months before I can comment on its long term reliability now this teething troubles are hopefully sorted.

I thought it was a new durex model

Looks like a nice bike for the money, I'd buy one if I was looking for an OTP.

I agree about Evans' 'relaxed' attitude to bike setup before delivery. When I received my RB Solo I had to setup the mudguards, headset, brake calipers and even had to true the wheels both laterally and radially as they were totally unrideable. Setting up the seat and bars is obviously a given but the other stuff shows laziness.
If I was someone who couldn't service a bike to that level I would've been unimpressed to put it lightly, however I enjoy tinkering with new kit so I was chuffed regardless.

Really want one of these now. If anyone has one or just the frame set and is looking to get rid please let me know .

• #18
Sorry , but that really looks like a pile of pony to me .

It's just the practicality of the bike that appeals to me really.

And the fact that looking like that nobodies likely to steal it .

Had mine for over 3 years now and its been good to me, not one problem. I think It looks alright. The frame is as good as anything else I've ridden and has eyelets for guards which is very practical. Plus has better crank set than you will get on most bikes as standard.

I've been on the lookout for one of these in 56 for a while now. If anyone finds one please hit me up.

I have the OG Genesis Flyer, pretty sure I got it the first year they did it.
Don't think mine has mudguard eyes though?
It's pretty low in the bb though. Shame as it's such a nice frame but ultimately the lack of cornerability has me looking for something else.
Oh and also, I had to hammer the chainstay into (out of) shape in order to fit a 48t chainring with decent chainline.

I don't know if many of these sold or were made as shops didn't have many when I was purchasing mine.
I've only ever seen one other owner and that's in the last month when I changed my commute. I did see one for sale on the Internet somewhere but that was ages ago so they seem pretty rare.
It's a good bike if you can find one though.
Am i the only one with one of these.
