    Just signed up for this...
Ride the length of this green and pleasant land in 9 days. Seems to be very well organised and supported.

£199 entry + minimum sponsorship obligation.

  • that looks sick, but thats a lot of sponsorship to have to raise for an event which everyone i know will view as my ideal holiday and not something worth sponsoring me for.

why cant i be a couch potatoe type that people would think it funny to sponsor.

  • shhhh!

It's a gruelling event that will take you to the limits of human suffering ;)

  • Can't you just ride from the Bristol Channel to the Thames in London's famous London? That's end to end, Shirley.

Srsly tho, good luck with it Sam!

  • yeah, been planning to do this for a while. i am in.

i did l2p for action medical research last year and the organisation of the ride (done by discover adventure) was second to none!

will sign up when i have some time.

  • I was really tempted to do it this year but decided to cycle down to the south of France in August.

I'm really really *really *tempted to do it in '11 now.

  • @joe/tim, there's an option to enter someone's name to buddy-up for the hotels at either end, and so avoiding spending a night with a random bike geek. Feel free to add me.

  • Cool. I wont be signing up until after August as might be having Knee surgery around Christmas and find out then, but if all goes well then i'm 100% in.

i think i'd rather take my chances with a random bike geek

  • slut

  • "Commitment from you to fundraise a minimum sponsorship of £2,000"

    I'm out.

  • "Commitment from you to fundraise a minimum sponsorship of £2,000"

    I'm out.

It's only a weeks worth of pies. Show come fucking compassion Hippy

  • i have signed up.

it says you get a personal tent on the road, but i have put you down as preferred room mate, sam in case of hotels at start / finish / whatever.

now to get people to sponsor me 2 grand... hmm...

  • Yup, the hotel's are at either end.

2 water/food stops, with a catered lunch stop inbetween. Access to day bag on route. Sweeper wagon. Tents and luggage waiting at the end of each day.

Oh, and the GPS data will be available for download nearer the time.

  • 'Minimum Sponsorship' is a commitment from you to raise sponsorship of at least £2000 for Action Medical Research of which £1195 must have been received by the charity by 12 March 2011 to confirm your place on the ride. Action Medical Research will pay the event organisers Action Challenge for the balance of your place on UKEND2END and retain all remaining funds for their valuable work.
Not knocking it, charidy is charidy, but there's a few things that don't feel quite right.

    1. So this initial £1200, it's the balance of a £1400 trip cost (two hundred being paid by the cyclist)? Surely the obligation is that the cyclist cough up for the entire trip, and have their mates chip in for the good cause. As Ed said further up, I'd feel a bit rough taking a grand off my chums in order to pay for a holiday.

    2. "Why am I doing it? Because I'm a keen supporter of Action Medical Research", and I really value the work that they do."

    3. I'll sponsor anyone who cycles the trip either blindfolded and on the back of a tandem, or in underwear fashioned from coarse sacking cloth.

Just sayin', and terribly sorry to all. 'Should be a blast.

  • i feel ya!

i plan to put a big chunk in myself.

  • Ditto.
Good point, Friday... it was my main concern before signing up.

It always grates a little when recieving a donation request which involves subsidising someone's activity. However, i'd rather sponsor an Mt Everest climb and subsidise the costs, than a 2k walk.

I feel that by donating a fair sum personally, and raising a large proportion of the funds from initatives such as raffles and bake-sales, which at least gives something back to the sponsors, a clear(ish) conscience can be kept.
