The only solution is to buy a second, identical, printer and leave one switched on. Then after a reasonable amount of time - say a year - you will be able to assess the relative conditions of the two printers and be able to make an informed decision as to what to do in future.

As sad as it is, this is probably the only way to get an objective answer to this.

How often do you use the printer?

Mmmmm, on average probably once a week for around 2-10 prints.

i'd call that regular use, at least for an ink jet

Leave one cartridge in it, a cheap one, then switch it on and off 365 times and see how much ink gets used.

If it were me, i turn it off and unplug as i'm an eco kinda guy and not worry about it too much.

i don't believe its much affect eitehr way, i'd turn it off, once a week? not worth the power its wasting, every day 100 times, leve it on
though i do all my printing on the work account, printers a cunts
Only asking as i know a lot of people on here are into computers, photography etc.
I have a Canon ip4500 which i use pretty sporadically.
I'v heard that i should leave it on all the time as turning on and off means it does a head clean everytime using up ink.
I did jfgi and the interwebs presents conflicting but equally convincing arguments for both leaving on and turning off.
Some ppls say that iv you leave it on the ink is free to evaporate out the cartridge whereas turning off parks the print head in such a position that the cartridges are sealed and no ink lost.
Some ppls say that the cartridge will return to the parked/sealed position after a minute or 5 of inactivity anyway.
If i turn my printer off after a spell of inactivity there's no noise which would suggest that the head was already parked.
What's your opinion?
