Please bring refreshments, drinks for the little ones, blankets, toys, games.

We have spawned the idea of getting parents on the forum together.
The plan is to organise a picnic in Victoria Park and perhaps do a mini-ride as well.

Many of us are bit weary when using trailers on the road, so it would be good to come out in a strong group and see how it goes.

Meeting time to be confirmed later on.

  • we can ride around the park
victoria park is fine for me
i always cycle on the pavement with cisco

  • @ tika - it would be good to see you and cisco

  • yes we will do our best to come. normally i am free at weekends
not 20th June though as my dad is going back to argentina that day

  • (thanks for PM rocksteady)

I'll try to attend. Don't live local any more ...

I won't pick a date cos it's bound to jinx me being able to actually attend that day.

  • I will send PMs to all the parents on the forum, but not before Sunday evening.

  • I should be right for either of the July dates, wife is due the third baby on July 12th so will have to 'play it by ear' so to speak.

  • Sounds like a great idea.

There is always the option of a bit of a canal ride if the picnic is in Victoria Park. I have done a couple of rides with Darcy my 18 month old daughter on the child seat on the back of the bike along the canal towpaths and it is quite fun.

  • ok, have juggled plans around so we can make weekend of 17/18 - prefer the sunday but either suits

  • 18th july looks good for me too

  • Good. We'll wait for more people to see the thread and then set the date.

  • Are 'uncles' allowed as well? Wonderful idea. Should be able to make this. My godson still ignores the bike; the like-a-bike is just to fast. We regularly do a few laps in Rosemay Gardens.

  • Tynan said the 18th's currently free for him, pending a few other things he's got in the pipeline. I just do what he says. You know how it is.

  • Oh, and I got worried, because i read it as "the 18th century".

No uncles, no peados, no ice cream vans etc!

(sure all forum members are welcome, but kids are our priority - they don't need to be yours as long as you have the parents'/social services' permission).

  • You're living in the past. Admit it.

  • Miss the 80s a bit.

  • If you miss the 80s, you weren't there - isn't that how the saying goes :S

The mum would bring the child seat. I would schlepp the bike on the handlebars.

But I wore 27 size jeans back then. Now is more like 34/36.

  • I'd def be up for this with the wife and nipper. Bit far away in south london but i'm sure we can work something out like putting the bikes on the east london line and riding the difference.

not sure about dates, will see if we can survive this month first. was thinking about organising something like myself but you've beaten me to it - will be a good way to meet more parent friends, currently all our parent friends are discoveries by my wife due to our "hippie" (cringe) parenting techniques, some cycling links will be much appreciated.

If there are any other south london types who want to make this but it's a bit distant, lets join forces and work out a clever route or boycott it and create a southern rival, I'll be up for either.

  • oops missed all this! nice one EEI. i've voted and can do all but the 10th july.
i dont have a child seat but my little one has a bike and loves riding it. i should probably pre warn you all that his bike is fixed with front brake only and no foot retention :( please don't be too harsh on us!

Might be up for this (route finding), H, but I have to ascertain whether I'll be back in time from a family event the day before. We could always get the East London overground to make it a bit less of a slog...

Only trouble for me is that I have a half-a-bike that I can;t easily remove from the rack, a safety bolt sheared off and it's stuck to the rack, so I want few stairs to negotiate, which might be difficult.

Fellow south-london type here! Happy to look at finding clever route 'cross the river (shudder...)

  • @everyone
The waterplay area at Viccy Park is excellent, if the weather's fine that'd be a really good destination... we miss it!
