If so then dibs -

Thanks for the info, on a low budget though so don't want to start buying other bits to get it to fit...
Sorry, UN-DIBS

The cups are like £17 or something. I think you need to buy the bearings separate to these for another £17 or something (always nice with new bearings though).
The cups and bearings are usually included with new cranksets. But at the price above this may not be the case. Might be worth asking though.

thanks smallfurry...
yes, you just have to find the cups... but i think i have the cups, just add £5 more, then i will give you everything...
i dont know about the bearing because i never use this crankset before... the arm size is too long for me.. my size is 165 but this is 170... cheers

I think I made it sound a bit complex. But in my opinion, external BB systems are by far the easiest to live with. -

I'm confused... How do the cups fit with my current BB? Or do I get rid of my current BB and screw the cups in there? If so how can I be sure that the cups will fit my BB shell? (It is an old 80s bike)
Sorry for the idiotic questions that everyone else knows the answer to... -
• #12
You'd need to remove your existing BB and insert the new one. Is your bike French or Italian? If not then it's likely these cups will fit.
-
• #13
Yeah, to be honest, to keep your current BB. You will need to find a crankset suited to its spindle length.
Its a bloody minefield this bike meching marlarky ;)

• #14
yes, i think just remove your bottom bracket, and put this crankset and the cups in... this crankset doesnt need a bottom bracket, because the torque system will play the role as a bottom bracket.. correct me if im wrong.. cheers..
-
• #15
you only picked this up from me 2 days ago!
weren't feeling the ulta torque?
-
• #16
yes ben... the crank arm is too long for my bike.. i need 165...
-
• #17
Correct...to install these you remove your bottom bracket. The bottom bracket cups screw into the thread. You then put the cranks through and use a 10mm allen key to tighten...incredibly easy to install...and they look great...its funny because I now think standard square taper cranks and BBs look abhorrent...
This truly is a great price...and you don't need to buy any bearings...I have just looked at the photo...they are already attatched...so worse case scenario you have to buy the cups (only 12 quid on ebay) -

Ok well you've convinced me on the benefits of this system, particularly as my BB is pretty shot!
@Radi, I've just noticed you've updated your original post a while ago to collection only - if you change your mind about posting could you let me know? I live in Norfolk so can't collect.
Good luck with the sale if not! -
