*An apple pie is a fruit pie (or tart) in which the principal filling ingredient is apples. It is sometimes served with whipped cream on top. Pastry is generally used top-and-bottom, making a double-crust pie, the upper crust of which may be a disk shaped crust or a pastry lattice woven of strips; exceptions are deep-dish apple pie with a top crust only, and open-face Tarte Tatin.*

    Crumble: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_crumble

  • Just formulating a recipe for bacon and apple pie actually...

  • I sense 2 camps.

  • Rhubarb or Gooseberry [pie or crumble] allowed?

  • I am the law.

  • I am the law.

If you're the law, you need to have rules and regulations to enforce.

  • The first rule of The Forum Apple Pie Apple Crumble Bakeoff is, you don't talk about The Forum Apple Pie Apple Crumble Bakeoff.

  • Tarte Tatin SMACKDOWN

  • Surely this should be done at the *end *of summer when apples are in season?

  • Tell that to those who queue outside the Apple shops right now.

  • I am the law.

    ?

  • I see where your all coming from.

But custard, cream, whipped cream or ice cream accompaniments

  • Rhubarb or Gooseberry [pie or crumble] allowed?

Rhubarb or Gooseberry [pie or crumble] allowed?

    Urgent clarification required.

    Oh FFS it's an Apple Pie/Crumble bake-off.

Fucking awesome idea by the way.

  • I am jumping up and down with excitement..

  • Rhubarb or Gooseberry [pie or crumble] allowed?

I think they should be, both for the sake of variety and because it is more open to people using their own fruit, which is cool.

  • apples means apples ... ;)

Welcome to bring other fruity concoctions, but Hippy's judging apples ...

  • hippy likes them apples

  • and them pies

  • I am going to OWN crumble.

  • I declare myself judge.
I have, for the past 15 years, moonlighted in various Crumble/Pie Tasting roles:
Kipling was the first to hire me, straight out of Taste College, Cambridge, where I graduated with a 1st in Blind Testing Methods as a means of Experimental Psychology, followed by a low point in my career at McDonald's quality control, after a mis-tasted pear pie got through.
However, I regained international renown in the circle, and slowly developed my skill. Now I'm officiating head and spokesperson for the International Culinary Pie, Crumble and Cake Taste Testing and Classification Organisation (www.ICPCCTTCO.com), and though cake is not my specialty, my secretary, Ms. Jones, fills in for me.

So I am clearly the only one trained enough for such a role.

  • Hippy and Henry - like those two off Masterchef, but the pie version.

  • I just like the feel of worm pie's insides

  • can it be apple and rhubarb/blackcurrant etc?

    need urgent clarification.

I'm so in, by the way.
