  • **SE Racing Draft Lite Single-Speed Bike (2010) £265.50

    ****Create Single-Speed Track Bike (2009) **£179.99

    **

Getting this for my brother who has never had a single speed but I'm not too knowledgable myself. So..

Which is a better bike and why?
What is bad about either bike?
Which one would you get taking into account the almost £100 difference?

Thank you all very much for your help.

  • Search for unipack.

then make up your own mind.

but my recommendation, get him to buy the Kona Smoke, they can be found for under £200 brand new (last year model kind), it's a lots a bike for the money.

  • i think these threads ought to be ignored. type "create" into the search and the 2nd thread (first if this one hadn't existed) is all you need to read.

  • The good thing is at least you asked before spending any money. Basically, do not buy a Create or a Unipak or anything that looks like one; same wheels, same frame etc.
Have a look at the OTP list; OTP means off-the-peg and that is the kind of bike you are looking for. Use the search up there^.

  • you also get the simpsons avatar thread

  • i got a 2007(?) model of what was to become create bikes, it was a really fun bike, but only because i enjoy repairs. i can't say that the problems still exist in their bikes as i don't know but i recon leopards and spots and that, they're crap bikes

  • The recent Create bicycle is noticably better than the original Unipack, but it's still quite dodgy.

  • i think these threads ought to be ignored. type "create" into the search and the 2nd thread (first if this one hadn't existed) is all you need to read.

I've read most of the create/unipack thread but tbh I still wasn't sure afterwards.

Some who had owned it said it was decent for its price tag. Others who hadn't owned it said it was rubbish and would injure the rider.

The problem is no one really said what was wrong with it.

Looking at the 2 bikes I would go for the SE Draft Lite but its £100 more expensive. and I would be really annoyed it I spent £100 extra and my brother didn't ride it. He's not an enthusiast, will probably use it 2 or 3 times a week max and probably won't look after it very well.

So.. anything mechanically just really wrong with the Create or Draft?

  • To save me from starting a new thread :)

Can you guys help me with the difference between -

    SE Draft &
    SE Draft Lite

I presumed that the Lite version is more of an entry level but the Draft (not lite) version is cheaper.

Most websites say they are the same apart from teh handle bars. But looking at the specs I understand that the Lite has a flip/flop hub and the Draft doesn't. Am I correct?

Thanks guys. I love this website so far

  • Unless you are doing somekind of cycle2work scheme I suggest you put a wanted ad in the classifieds for £250. State the size you require and wait for something decent to pop up.

  • JenJen...

I know you want a brand fine new shiny bike for your brother,..though to be honest...you are just throwing money away/../.

You can buy a new bike...for £300...which will be as cheap as chips...it will have poor quality components, it will be a poor quality ride..(ie it won't roll) and it just gets worse from there...

you are far far better off...sitting on the forum for a couple of weeks and seeing what it posted here...

second hand bikes that cost an arm and a leg when new...that are going for silly money...

some of the bikes that are coming from the netherlands...really are hard to beat...they are loaded with amazing components, have really strong light frame (made from very good quality tubing)...and are only as much money as you want to spend on yor bike...
and as long as he keeps it in reasonable condition...

you will be able to sell it on with out losing a bean..

    consider this please...

these bikes are just cheap and will cost you in long run...

where as spending 300 quid on a classic bike...will eventualy cost you nothing...you just keep it for a while and then sell it on...

  • And the creativity/customability factor of creates, can be done just as easily with a second hand bike, but with a greater range.
I can definately reccomend Netherlands as an excellent source of bikes at strong prices, peter v, RIH, maryanne, zielman and a few others regularly have excellent bikes at strong prices.

Thanks Wingedangel for the sound advice.

Can you post a link to a thread to recommend a bike that I look at which is not overly expensive. This will give me something to compare it to and to read whilst I researching online at the moment.

    Thanks

  • Save your money and get him some HMV vouchers

  • If he doesn't look after the vouchers, I'll have them.

  • Save your money and get him some HMV vouchers

    lol, he's 25 not 15

  • I bought a draft lite back in january 2009. I think it's an ok bike now. I replaced the handlebars, stem, seat post, saddle, pedals and brakes. and fitted tug nuts. cheap bikes they're certainly not.

  • Search for unipack.

Seriously Ed, who cares if it's only £200. Why on earth are you recommending a fat-tyred geared hybrid to someone who wants a fixed gear?

  • because it's an excellent bike for the money, it's as simple as that.

Plus not everyone would want a fixed wheel bicycle.

    Nothing wrong with fat tyres.

Agree with those points but the question was which of the two fixed wheels bicycle was better. To me that was a clue that the request was associated with a fixed gear bicycle?
Or shall we just post every bike that is good for the money, regardless of type of bike :-)

  • These two bikes will do, but it's a waste of money, I agree with Wingedangel spend you money on something worthwhile. If your buying it for someone who might not use it much, then there is a chance you'll want to sell it at some point when the novelty wears off, when you come to sell a Create you'll realise how shit they are. Resale is going to be terrible. It's like that old saying, something like: "Buy cheap buy twice."

  • At the ends of the day, it just a bicycle, get outside and ride and enjoy it

    [/scoble]

  • tbf, unipak is probably best value for money if the bike only gets ridden once. otherwise, have a look at the fuji track - long running entry level favourite, I think.

  • or just treat your brother like a child and get him a bike for £20 and only get him a better one when he has used it continually for a month to prove that he really wants one.

Thanks. I've been looking at the fuji track aswel. A lot of the reviews are sound.

The cheapest I found is for £329.95

**I know this bike is better but Why? what aspect of it is better? please give me a quick rundown so I could learn something. Thanks

Also, they don't come with brakes. How much would this normally set me back plus can you recommend some? thanks.
