Im desperate to have a go at BMX racing. Will there be an opportunity for everyone to have a decent turn, with some guidance on how to pump & clear jumps?
Or will it basically be a pile of halfords BMX's , just for kids to ride around slowly.

The guys leading the BMX are cycleactive.co.uk
They mostly deal with MTB'ing tours, but are BC qualified BMX coaches and did the BMX tryout at last years Bikeradar Live.
It certainly won't be a pile of Halfords Bikes, for kids to ride on slowly. It will be taster sessions for all ages / abilities - but it will be coached and I'm sure they'd be more than happy to discuss pumping and clearing jumps with those interested.
The only potential issue is if loads of folks turn up, there may be a bit of a wait to get on the track for a session, but then it's free so I don't have worries about asking folks to wait for a bit (there's other stuff to keep peeps occupied). Decided not to let people book slots, as it's free and we'd potentially have lots of dead time if folks didn't show up.
Look out for Redditch launching soon too though, bigger track (National) - not sure what structure of the launch event will be though (many are race events for those already with the gear and skillz).

Riding the bike path in my local country park this afternoon I hear the sound of a very loud freewheel coming up behind me and some kid on a brakeless bmx overtakes me and glances back looking very pleased with himself. Not that I care.
Then he slows down looking a bit annoyed that I didn't react to him over-taking. He draws up beside me looks my bike up and down and then asks if I bought it at Halfords.
That about sums up my day.

it's ok, with no brakes and a freewheel he will be dead soon.

^^ He could've asked if you bought it at Hawks. That'd be alot worse...
BMX thingy has it's own council webpage now: www.coventry.gov.uk/bmxtra

Unlikely, 10 years later I'm still standing.

Good luck today Andy! Not gonna get my bike over today so not sure I'll make it over. Hope it goes well though. Hopefully the grafiti is gone!

It was spot on, really good turn out and great atmosphere. I'm not a bmx historian so didn't recognise the great Trevor Robinson who popped along, he even rode for a bit too.
Had to wait with some equipment for an hour or so at the end, so took that opportunity to get some track time myself too.

Great stuff mate! Get any photos?
I was being carted about by my folks all day shopping and the like. On the plus side I picked up a turbo trainer at a carboot for £2! Only a cheap BETO thing but couldn't really say no :)
Not 100% in place, but likely to be a free BMX tryout day at the Allan Higgs track on weekend of 19th/20th or 26th/27th June - using money I've been given to put on a Bike Week event for the city. Looking most likely to be on the 20th.
Pencil it in your diaries... I have a few side show ideas lined up too... watch this space...
