I would, but paying nearly £20 for the priveledge of riding on roads I can blast anytime seems like a bit of a shit (plus being financially fucked doesn't help much!). I would be up for it if itwas somewhere a bit more interesting than Norfolk (e.g. Up north, europe etc...)

I hadn't bothered checking entry fee. So yeah, riding for free and spending the £17 in a pub sounds better.
-

Hahahaha, man after my own heart! Lol. How's the lock holster?
-
• #5
I'm doing it. Lot to be said for a proper marshalled ride w/ designated feed stops etc. In my minimal experience that is.
-
• #6
I did it last year. It's not really marshaled in the sense that there's always staff around. Over 100 miles they're spread pretty thin. Also got no food or water on the way round - saw a place selling some, that's it. Having said that, I liked it, and will probably sign up this year.

Would love to, but my current level of endurance would probably see me cross the finish line via an ambulance.

It's good! Won't get a proper run out til next Friday, you'll be able to witness your handywork in action.
Still a bit tempted just because it is a 'proper' ride, shall wait til the last minute to decide. Decisions, decisions.

I'm up for this, should we get a load of us to do it fixed?
-
• #10
I'm planning on doing it fixed.
-
• #11
'proper' ride
Oh, that's meant to be funny is it?
-
• #12
You going for the 6 or 8 hour slot for fixed? (please say 8!)
By 'proper' I mean it has a route with signposts, never been on one of these sorts of things.
-
• #13
I'd happily go along at anyone else's pace, so whatever you guys fancy really! Did 60 miles in 3 hours on the fixed last Friday which I'm quite happy with.
-
• #14
Think I'll sign up for the 6 and bring geared if I don't feel up to it. All subject to not being broke after my holiday! (still seems a bit steep for no food/water stops)
-
• #15
Do it on a BMX! In 8 hours. 30x9 Gearing. Low frame, slammed seat! Hardcore.
-
• #16
ah ha ha.
Please please please do it on your bmx, all lycraed up that would be as funny as hell.

Now that would be worth the entry fee alone.

Me and Sparky have signed up for it, more of a training ride than anything, anyone else joining us for a fast but social ride?
-
• #19
Yeah I'm going geared. You got your start times yet?
-
• #20
I'm in. Going geared, 7.10 start. Rider 351 as I've no idea what you look like (except Sparky)
-
• #21
Seven ten start too. I'll be the skinny chap on the black Ribble.
-
• #22
7:40 start. No. 1303.
Thunderstorms predicted.
What's everyone eating for breakfast?
any plans for afterwards? -
• #23
Balls to start times, roll out at 7.00 with the masses. Praying thunderstorms come late in the day.
Will be eating chicken and pasta Saturday night, eggs on toast Sunday morning. Carbs and protein all the way! Plans for afterwards: pint and collapse. -

What a great ride w/ barely a touch of rain. Bit touch and go on the coast road coming into the 2nd feed stop, almost bonked but bacon sarnie, Mars bar & powerade sorted that. Was nice to ride with the work crew, matched Edwyn (the meaty SA rugby playing, custom titanium Merlin rider, my boss) up to the finish (and they started 15 mins earlier), earnt the post ride Guiness and a day off being an invalid tomorrow.
18-19mph average. Road bikes FTW. Hope the fixed crew got on OK? That headwind must have been a nightmare..
Think I'll trade in the Ribble for a winter bike & get some carbon with this years Cyclescheme..

Yeah, good ride here. Stuck with Col who was geared, which forced me to up the pace (although I did hide behind him quite a lot). Stopped 8 miles from the end to text Kirsty so she could meet me at the finish, lost some ground to Col. Ruined my knees and turned my lungs inside-out to catch him up and gobbled up dozens and dozens of the 50-milers who had re-joined the route. Didn't quite get him though. Loved it.
But...
Doing it fixed was stupid. Had a few people look at my rear wheel and giggle. Road bike next year, and going for 5:30. Got in pretty much exactly on 6 hours today.
Now I have to write a piece on it for the paper. Bugger.
Anyone planning on doing this years Norwich 100?
