I would personally dress it with C- Record era campagnolo chorus or record 8 speed. Sounds like a nice project. All the best.

Thanks for the responses. jodie you have a PM.
Colnago_costa, you seem to have knowledge on this. how can I date my frame? It has internal cable on the top tube and has colnago dropouts (i expected them to be campagnolo) with "colnago OC201" stamped on the rear dropout. the forks are straight (precisa). it has the colnago symbol engraved on the rear brake bridge, lower front lug, and top of the seatstays. it also has the shape cut out on the BB shell. It's columbus sl. Any information would be great! -

Hi Blankface, could you post a few pics of the frame and any of the lug work and I shall do my best to give good advice. I would personally keep to one groupset of a certain period. In a rush right now, but will good advice. Talk later. cheers

mixing speeds isn't always the best, but remember 8 speed is not compatable with 9 or 10 unless you're prepared to mess around with 8.
i had 8 speed indexed record levers and could never ever get them to sync with the 8 speed cassette as i had a 9 speed rear mech!but spacing an 8 speed cassette with 9 speed spacers means it's just about spot on - if you can understand my waffling

Sorry about the mahooosive pictures but I didn't have time to resize. this should give a better idea of what the frame looks like to help date it! Thanks everyone.

Thanks for the help. Can someone suggest what rims might be suitable for this? I know shamals or vento would maybe be the correct option but what box section rims come from this period? thanks. oh and what bars and stem? these are parts I haven't thought of yet. I know I can probably get a cinelli bar/stem combo but which one? I don't know if in this period anatomical drops are appropriate.

This Colnago is of late 1980s in my estimation with precisa forks of a later period. It is a Colnago Super SL which was the one down from the Conic SLX. The Colnago Master Piu was the top of the range with Gilco tubing. A nice 7-8 speed era Campgnolo groupset C-Record or Chorus or Athena would look nice on it.

Yes I agree with nouvo record. Omega U or V rims would look correct for a frame of this period.

PM on it's way.
So I bought a Colnago super frame which needs dressing up with some nice campagnolo. its 130mm rear spacing so thats 8, 9 or 10 speed according to sheldon.
I'll considor buying a whole bike if that makes it easier, so i can strip it down just to use the parts. I basically have nothing except a BB right now...
what ya got?
