Yeah, I'll swap a calliper for the track frame. Pmed

Harry, you really are a dick. I fully know that you don't even have a long drop caliper. Do some bloody revision before you fail your exams... again

Harsh, but fair.

If youre having problems with the 27" frame, you could just cut out a piece of steel and drill holes in it?
Not the prettiest, but I've done it on mine. Needs to be fairly thick however -

what about a phil 110 http://hubjub.co.uk/philwood/philwood.htm - tho probably more pricey than DA

Cheers for the suggestions.
@irisque - I'm sure getting a long drop caliper is going to be easier than finding some sort of metalwork tools to make a lower brake bridge for the fork (that is what you meant, right?)
@m-x - yeah, it was mostly cost that put me off DAs to be fair. I may well bite the bullet yet as I've seen tfg have them, but thought there might be a cheaper solution out there?

looks like your best bet would be to respace a 120 down to 110
...as indicated on these cheapo formula hubs - sounds pretty easy http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/product-SJSC-SJSC-Double-Fixed-Large-Flange-Track-Hubs-with-high-quality-sealed-cartridge-bearings--Polished-Alloy-finish--per-pair-36-hole-11137.htm

Yeah, sorry if i wasn't clear. You're right I suppose I only did it because I already had good calipers, but it wasn't too much effort (:

I have a long drop weinmenn caliper, silver, old style nutted, do you know what kind of drop you are after? I ran this on my 1983 Record Sprint with the blocks right at the top and they only just caught the rim.

Hey there - I've got 3 vintage rear hubs, all 110 spacing, in order of photos they are an Airlite, a Spinter and a... Dunno. Sprinter is double fixed, the others are fixed/free (took pic of wrong side of Airlite but lockring included). They're all filthy dirty but will scrub up OK. Don't need anything except cash unfortunately, rgds Hutch

No forks, anyone?
-
• #16
~~Someone posted a pair of chromed forks only yesterday (I think). I recall the length was something like what you're after. ~~
Nope, too short. -
• #17
The really irritating thing is that the forks I have are only about 1cm too short, if that. And they are quite nice. Bloody stupid eBay seller...

I have a Graham Weigh 1" threaded 531 fork in metallic blue, very tight clearances (will only take a 20c tyre) - Off a largish frame so steerer length should be OK - I will measure tonight & post a pic.
-
• #19
El presidente - that would be awesome, thanks. How far down does the threading go?
-
• #20
couple of inches prob, maybe a bit more, I can check tonight.
Also have a tired campag 1" threaded headset (crown race still on the fork) or a brand new dura-ace if you are interested.
-
• #21
and a brand new 20c panaracer tyre
-
• #22
Cool, well I have about 13.5cm headtube so just need enough threading for that... if the fork will fit that would be perfect. Think I'm ok for headset but might take a panaracer?
-
• #23
What about the VO Paris-Brest-Paris ? I think TFG have them too...

As promised, 531 Graham Weigh forks, they have a 22cm steerer of which 5cm is threaded, came off a frame with an 18cm head tube. Quite a lot of surface rust, bubbling paint etc - they are serviceable but could use some tlc.
Tyre is a Panaracer Stradius 700x20c, brand new
Let me know if you want more / bigger pics

I just left a visitor message for you... I'm not certain that there is going to be enough thread on that fork once it's cut down (It's going on a 13.5cm headtube) but otherwise it would be perfect - let me have a look and check, also will see about costs of getting the thread extended by a shop.
How much did you want for the forks?
I'll pass on the tyre though, thanks - I've found some tasty 19s at home that I will use for this build instead!
Much as I hate wanted threads, especially ones that ask for loads of stuff, all these parts are a bit less common so I think its justified... and UTFS hasn't turned up too much so far.
The fucker on eBay who sold me my track frame included the wrong fork.
So I need a **1", threaded steel fork, drilled **please, pref. with minimal rake and suited to a nice lugged 531 track frame. Colour is less important although white or chrome would make my life easier.
Steerer needs to be approx **172mm **or more with a reasonable amount threaded.
I have a slightly shorter (162mm I think), undrilled chrome track fork with lovely tight clearances to trade, and/or little bits of paper with a picture of an old lady on.
Also looking for a pair of **silver, low profile rims **- something classic looking, 40h needed for rear and a 32 for front.
Money is waiting for any of this - also to trade I have
Er you get the picture. Loads of finest quality merchandise to swap. Obv some of this is worth a bit so i'm not going to swap a DA crankset or a track frame say for a long drop brake caliper...
Cheers,
Andy
