Bottom Bracket to fit Miche Advanced

I've just purchased miche advanced crankset along with a miche 107 BB. However my bb shell appears to have a ridge on the driveside. I previously had a shimano un54. Will another of these work with the miche crankset?

shimano is jis taper, miche cranks are iso, so get an iso bb, either campag 111mm or simply fit the miche bb.

Yeah it raises up about 1mm so the miche bb cup slips in about 3/4 of it's length and will then move in no farther (e.g. it doesn't screw in at all)

Take it to a bike shop where they can cut more of a thread into the BB shell. Sounds like there's not enough thread for the BB

Turns out the shell itself is threaded, don't really fancy buying a new frame. Might be able to get it retapped, but does anyone know about these inserts that can be used as thread?

you mean the shell is cross threaded?
best beat is taking pics so we can have a look.
You can get the threads re tapped , re cut (to Italian size) or use a thread less bb depending on the damage

un54 that you've taken out, english thread, yes?

miche primato to replace it..english thread too?

if the un54 will screw back in then the miche should too, if it won't then either:

a) - you've crossed the thread :( LBS may be able to re-tap thread

b) - the thread on the drive side is not tapped deep enough to accommodate the full depth of the miche bottom bracket cup. LBS will be able to tap the extra few mm, as pifko and scrapper mentioned

For what it's worth, I've used both UN54 and Miche on the same frame without problems so sounds like something may have got damaged.

Heli-coils are the stainless steel wires that act as thread but never used them on anything bigger that about an M16. No idea if they come in the wierd sizes of ISO bb threads. Can't help thinking that's not the easiest route.

Someone at work is going to have a go at retapping it next week. Fingers crossed! How well do retaps usually work? Should I start looking for a new frame?

not at all, as scrapper said getting it reamed and tapped to the larger italian thread should not be a problem to a decent workshop
